I just purchased a diamond from bluenile that is SI1 clarity. It is very clean with the exception of a crystal and a pinpoint. When looking upclose (2-3 inches away), I cound the crystal and now can''t seem to miss it. Is this considered eye clean or am I just obsessing now? Other than that, I find the diamond to be beautiful and wouldn''t notice it if I was just glancing down at it.

Also, I''m comparing a 1.53 carat diamond to a 1.41 carat diamond - do any of you feel there is a noticeable difference in size once it''s placed in a setting?

Much help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

There are varying definitions of eyeclean, depending on who you''re asking.
imo, if the inclusion is bothering you and you can see it easily, than its not eyeclean to you, which is what really matters.
It is definately possible to find eyeclean si1''s, even at larger sizes. I have a 1.25 that I have difficulty finding the inclusion even with a loupe.
I say, if its bothering you now, it may just get worse as time goes on, so you may want to look at exchanging/returning it.
However, if like you say you love the stone otherwise and can see past the inclusion, than just keep it.
Just fyi, BN has a lesser track record with "eyecleanliness" than other vendors such as GOG or WF.

The experts can answer technically what eyeclean is, but to me, if I saw something from the face up view of my diamond, I would not consider it eye clean. As for the size, that slight difference at those large sizes won''t be obvious once set, unless you''re comparing them side by side. I would choose the diamond of the highest quality and most beauty (and one that''s eye clean).

Look for twinning wisps when buying SI1''s, as they cannot be seen with the naked eye and will provide a great value. I agree with RN, which is why I chose to go to a VS1. I don''t want my girl looking in the stone and finding something in it. "Eye clean" is as the OP described, from glancing range of 8-10 inches. But the one wearing the diamond will obviously look closer, as in this case. You may want to consider dropping a color grade and getting a VS2. Although I know that you can find a diamond with inclusions that aren''t under the table, which would likely satisfy you. However, it will take longer to do so. I personally think that clarity is more important than color for an engagement ring if you can find crystal inclusions at the 2-3" range. Just an opinion....

Hm, that would bother me. My stone is an SI1 and it''s for sure eye clean - I can only see the inclusion with a loupe.

Ditto to RxTech on the rest.

Welcome Yoyo!

What you describe is normal, once you have found an inclusion, it is so easy to find it again as your eye automatically goes there! It isn't uncommon to be able to see something in an SI clarity, but this clarity grade are not created equal, some may be eyeclean at very close scrutiny and others will not be.

See if this thread helps concerning definitions of ' eyecleanliness.' https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/clarity-eye-clean-definition-interpretation-and-taste.30483/
As to the size between diamonds, it depends on the diameter measurements and cut quality if there would be a difference, probably not much at all even with direct comparison assuming the diamonds were well cut.

Thank you all for your responses! I realized that under close scrutiny I can see it. Not sure what to do.

Yoyo, you have probably read the thread I linked above, and now realize how subjective the subject of '' eyecleanliness'' can be. The most important thing here is that if this diamond isn''t making you happy due to the presence of this inclusion, if you are within the return policy, maybe you could consider sending back the diamond for a refund. Bear in mind that SI clarities can vary as I explained above, maybe a VS or above might be a better fit for you. But if you do search for another diamond, make it very clear to your rep or vendor, that eyeclean means to you, that you don''t see any inclusions in your diamond from any angle at close scrutiny, that way you and the vendor will be on the same page, and you are more likely to find a stone you can be completely happy with.

Lorelei, thank you for your post and advice. I just received the diamonds yesterday, so definitely have plenty of time to make the decision. As of now, I''m not too bothered by it because I know I have hawk eyes and know where to look now. I''m still going to look it over the next couple of days and see how I feel then. Now, I''m concerned if I''m getting a good diamond overall from the specs. I see all this hearts and arrows comments and fire/brilliance and am confused as if my diamond is any good..hahha. The rep said in terms of cut they are excellent, but I''m not sure if I can go on that alone.

What are the specs of the stone you bought?

MissGotRocks, Lorelei''s link is correct. Thanks Lorelei!!
