Explanations needed

Hi !
By searching a diamond, i found this one certified by GIA :

There is a note :
"Laser inscription : H&A"
But the cut, polish and symetry don''t look so ideal.

Could you explain me how such a stone can be graduaded H&A ???

Rahan,

Though, as a pattern, H&A inscribed is frequently there consistent with the product...most credentialling agencies don''t actually assign H&A at all, but anything can be inscribed on a diamond...so best not to use text on an inscription to do anything but help you identify it after you''ve purchased it.

Rahan, I don''t believe that GIA grades H&A; so somebody else had that laser inscription put on there. I could inscribe anything I want to on my diamond and GIA would have to "note" it on the cert. It''s an identifying characteristic you see.

As far as how it could merit being described by someone as H&A with VG for polish cut and symmetry, well, VG is nothing to sneeze at. As a matter of fact there have been many discussions here as to whether the difference could be seen with the naked eye or loupe by anyone not trained to know the difference. In other words, an expert.

Furthermore, H&A is an analysis of optical symmetry which is not the symmetry that the GIA cert is referring to. Check the FAQ section for an in-depth and intelligent discussion of the difference between the two. HTH
