Experts re: precious metal hallmark

Does the hallmark ''800'' mean anything to you? Itis on a gold colored chain and I am trying to figure out if this is real gold or not.

The chain could be gold plated over silver. Do you notice any discoloration? "800" is usually an older vintage marking for silver (Italy, Germany, Austria
and other countries).

Thank you Jeff. No, I do not notice any discoloration at all. It belonged to my MIL, so I am not sure what it is or how old it is. It is a pretty chain, doesn''t really "lool" costume like to me. The stamp is so hard to read, but I am pretty sure that is what it says.

Yep, I''m with Jeff. "800" is a silver marking (80% pure). If it''s yellow it''s gold plated silver.
