Hi all,

I came across this stone and the numbers on the HCA puzzled me.

Table %: 56.9
Depth: 62.2
CA: 35.5
PA: 40.8
LGF: 81%

I posted another diamond with a 33.5 CA and Dreamer D mentioned that it would be lots wthite light but less fire, but I prefer more fire and not mind less white light. Anyway, I rejected the other diamond cos I didn't like the color. So I actively searched for a higher CA, and found the one mentioned above.

If you run the numbers in HCA, you'll find that the cross will be within the AGS and GIA accepted as ideal/excellent region. Yet the score is 2.2.

Is this an example of non-conventional but will be amazing tyoe of diamond or is it a dud?

I'm not sure if I'll get this diamond as the numbers are unexpected, but just for learning sake, can someone pls explain why the apparent contradiction in HCA score and region?

Thank you. :))

There are plenty of great stones that score in the 2-2.5 range on the HCA. We just usually recommend getting an idealscope image on any stone to be sure it is a good one with minimal leakage.

DS, thanks for the suggestion. Here's the ASET. Does it look like there is too much green in it?

I guess the ASET would kinda make sense since the CA is higher, to produce more fire, right? Since it'll be less brilliant...

Am I wrong?

Not at all, it's a very nice one :sun:
IS just tells you that a given stone is "likely worth further investigation". It's not telling you that stones that score over 2 are going to be boogers or that stones that score under 2 are definite winners - it's not fine-tuned enough for those sorts of judgments. And you have ASET now which tells you more anyway ::)

Yssie, thanks for the explanation. I don't spend enough time on the board to realise that HCA 2-2.5 can also have many beautiful diamonds. So I'll ask for the Aset in future.
