Hi Friends,

I need your help. I've been a pricescope member for a year. My boyfriend and I were planning to purchase our engagement ring this summer but we came upon this one and really liked it... so we put it on hold. I finally received the ideal scope image. Can you please give me your input? We want to make a decision by tomorrow morning.

Specs:

Cut Grade: AGS 0 Ideal
HCA Score: 1.5 Excellent
Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Spread: Very Good

Any insight would be appreciated!

Many thanks in advance,

Maple

this idealscope indicates a painted diamond. Some people may or may not like the way the brightness patterning the stone displays. If you hadn't seen it and compared it to an ideal non painted diamond, it would be wise to make a decision thereafter.

I agree with diamondloveaffair. I'm confused though because I thought that I remembered being told that AGS down grades the cut on diamonds with painted/dug girdles?

Ah! Looks like I got it backwards and GIA down grades cut on painted girdles not AGS Thanks for the link sortmon. :wavey:

I think it's GIA that downgrades for painted girdles. Does it even matter if the girdle is painted if it still scored an AGS0?

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for your feedback. I had no idea what painted girdles were until you brought it up. I researched it... but I think I'm more confused than previously. :(sad

I also double checked the certification... and it is in fact a cut grading of AGS0 and graded within the past 3 months.

The gemologist confirmed it is eye clean. This is an S12 diamond I should add. Here is their feedback: "The diamond is white, it has very good light performance, it is well-balanced and symmetrical. It has a lot of brilliance and sparkle."

Here is a picture of the diamond.

Did the gemologist confirm anything about the light performance?

JA has a pretty good return system so if you like the stone and it's a good price, I'd bring it home to see it with my own eyes. It seems like some people prefer painted girdles. Eye clean SI2s in that size seem pretty rare to me and it still scored an AGS0 so I can't see how it would perform poorly.

The gemologist said it had "very good light performance".
