I recently got engaged and my fiance bought the ring online for about $3,000 dollars. I like the ring but I am VERY worried that he didn't get a good deal and that the ring is not what we have been told. It came with an appraisal (no certification) from the Shane company saying it was a VS1 I color radiant cut. I have attached pictures (I think. Hopefully they work!) if those of you who know much more about diamonds than I do could just tell me if the diamond looks good (does it look like it is cut well, etc) I would really appreciate it! Returning it is not an option so I am hoping you can just put my mind at ease.

Thanks!

We would need more specs to determine value. Please tell us what the paperwork from Shane says.

You know they have an excellent upgrade policy, so if you are not happy with the stone, you can exchange it for something else and you just have to spend $1 more. I would ONLY purchase certified "shane classic" stones. They sell GIA and AGS certified stones.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the stone doesn't look "bad" to me and if he spent $3000 for the stone and the setting, that doesn't seem unreasonable, but we need specifications to have a better idea.

Where are you located? You should go get it appraised. If you tell us where you are we can recommend an appraiser.

What other information would be helpful?

The Shane info says it is a 1.03 Radiant Cut diamond, I color and VS1 clarity. No flourescence and although Shane does not give a cut grade generally the appraisal I have gives it a "near ideal" grade. Does that help? Measurements are 6.14 x 5.41 if that means anything to anyone?

The Shane classic is only available for a princess or round cut I believe, and I would prefer to stick with a radiant. It is graded by a Shane representative, I am in Minnesota currently so to get a GIA certificate I would have to mail it. Thank you!

I dunno if you got a 'good deal' since in-house grading can be inaccurate, but here's a .95 I VVS2 for $2,896 w/PS wire discount:

You could buy an ASET to find out what the light return is like on the stone: http://www.americangemsociety.org/newhandheldaset.htm

If it's not great, with the upgrade policy, you could have them show you a bunch of loose radiants in your price range and use the ASET yourself to help you decide.
