Hello all,

First let me thank everyone in this community for the immense amount of information and help I have obtained through lurking on the forums. I would truly have been lost without you!

I''m proposing in a few weeks and I need to lock down my diamond choice now. Budget is between 3000 and 4000 for the diamond itself. Size is less important than visual impact for her - she loves ''sparkle''. I''ve been looking at AGSS0 Rounds about .75 carat, D-F and IF-VSI2 for setting in a white gold or platinum solitaire or pave.

I''ve visited local stores here in Florida as well as the mall superstores and the major online vendors BN, WF, JA, GOG. The best value seems to be online so that''s where I''m going to go. I found the following stones at Whiteflash and James Allen that meet my cut, color, clarity standards as well as being <2.0 on HCA.

My problem is that I don''t really know how to decide from here. I want the best light performance, but without a GEMEX report or viewing it in person I can''t figure out how to differentiate the stones. I tried to see a difference in the Idealscopes and photos but I just can''t make out much difference other than the minor occlusions in the SI2.

Sorry for the format, I think this posting box is mangling my spreadsheet:

Location ID Price Color Clarity Caret Cut Dimensions Depth Table Culet Girdle Crown Angle Pav Angle HCA

James Allen 1253666 3686 D VS1 0.73 AGS0  5.81 x 5.83 x 3.55 mm 61 56.5 None Thin to Med 34.2 41 1.5

Whiteflash AGS-10432502 3707 F VS1 0.754 AGS0  5.81 x 5.84 x 3.60 mm 61.8 55.8 Pointed Thin to Stk 34.7 40.6 0.8

Whiteflash AGS-1040361530012 3544 F VS2 0.765 AGS0 5.85 x 5.88 x 3.62 mm 61.6 53 Pointed Thin to Med 34.8 40.7 1.2

James Allen 1236900 3810 F VVS2 0.78 AGS0 5.91 x 5.93 x 3.66 mm 61.9 56.4 None Thin to Med 34.4 41 1.8

James Allen 1253665 3544 F SI1 0.88 AGS0 6.19 x 6.21 x 3.80 mm 61.3 55.9 None Thin to Med 34.6 40.8 1.3

Thanks in advance for whatever advice you can give me!

Mike

Can you either post the images or link the stones so we can also look at the IS and ASET images, please?

I love sparkle too, but size can also give you the visual impact that you are looking for. Unless you are dead set on D-F color or IF-VVS clarity I would definitely suggest a G color (big price drop since your outside colorless) and VS1-VS2 clarity. I had the same search parameters as you did when I started my search and I quickly learned that cut was where I needed to concentrate and I would be ok with a G-VS1/VS2 diamond.

Thritto.

Thanks for the tips all - I will take a look at some lower color diamons, and post links so you can compare the ASET/IS images.

I followed mattcv''s advice and searched out a slight larger .818 G/VS1 to compare with my .73 D/VS1 and .75 F/VS1 from earlier. Links are included, all three are below 2.0 HCA and AGS0 cut, about the same price.

Preferences? With mattcv''s advice I am leaning towards the larger G, as I do want ''sparkle'' and visual impact.

.73 D VS1

.754 F VS1

.818 G VS1

Thanks,
Mike
