Dear all,

I am a diamond newbie and am looking to purchase a stone for an engagement ring. I am considering to bid on the following diamond, which is going to be auctioned by a reputable auction house in Switzerland, my home country:

Shape: Round
Carat: 2.50
Width: 8.94 to 8.86 mm, average: 8.9 mm
Height: 5.15 mm
57,75% Depth
Color: G
The stone is from the 1950s and set in an old school ring (ring would need to be replaced).

Question: How would you rate the cut, given that the stone seems to be a bit flat? Is the "flatness" a problem (could this be the reason that the stone appears a bit dark upon visual inspection)?
The auction starts at ~24k USD (incl. buyer's premium). What would you consider a good price for this stone?

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

Is there a picture?

I would pass.

Doesn't look good. Sorry.

Sounds like a clear verdict ;-)

Just out of curiosity: What makes you think the stone doesn't look good?

Dead areas in the around the center of the diamond.

Deep pavilion causes light leakage. There is a dark ring around the middle.

Thanks very much for your input, much appreciated!
