Isn't this the same post as you already put out earlier but with a few extra tidbits? You know you can edit your original post so that you don't have all this same information in 2 posts...it will help people keep all the comments to one thread as well.

Mara,
Are you still interested in buying a Olive colored
Tourmaline ?
I need to know how to tell if the color is right with you.
One of the ways we describe color is to get a box of Crayola Crayons (the box with 69 colors)
Select your color from the box and let me know which one.
Uncle Marty of course

Hey Uncle Marty...

I am still interested in a tourmaline...in terms of color, I am unsure as I have never seen a tourmaline before!! I like the olive color of ones I have seen online, and also some of the more green (but not quite emerald) ones. I am going to set it into a ring as a (hopeful) bday present in August for my fiance...see my post in the 'Colored Stones' section from a few months back for images of the ring, etc.

The project is somewhat on the back burner for now....If I can find a stone, great..but I still am not 100% sure what to look for. I want it to be octagon or rectangular, not too dark so that when encased in the setting it does not appear blackish but rather still shows a very nice green, and must be around 14x9 or similar.

Anyway, check out my thread in the Colored Stones area and see what you think I should be looking for?

Thanks..

I think I asked this once before when I first got on here, but where are you located? Are there any major gem shows around your area? These might be your best bet.

Tourmalines are all very different in color and behavior and impossible to capture in pictures properly. They are very individual, and they are not cut to any standards. Most are very deep compared to what you are used to, and sizes and proportions vary immensely.
Each one has a personality and you pretty much have to get your hands on them before you can really decide.

Mara & Griffin,
Griffin you are right about Tourmalines.
Also on The Internet and certainly on e-Bay it is possible to enhance colors and very often yjr color seen on your screen is not what you get.
Much like the TV sellers of stones.
What you see is not what you get.
Gemstones to me are a love. They give all the time but do not ask for much.
Just handle them tenderly, do not abuse them, keep them clean and they will always shine back to you,
and never drop them or your heart will break.
Uncle Marty of course

I know finding a local jeweler may make sense but I am an internet gal at heart...plus really lazy.

Anyway if I think I can find something online that appears to be a good deal, with a good return policy...I am game to check it out.
