Expert advice needed

Although this is my first post, I have done some minimal research on PS as well as other forums. I''m sure that you always get the types of questions that want to know if a certain rock is a good buy. Unfortunately I''m creating another one of those too common questions.

I asked my jeweler if I could have a copy of the diamond certification, which is GIA. He said sure but ended up writing everything by hand on a card instead of copying it. He left out the crown and pavilion. I''m wondering if he did this on purpose or if it''s not included on all GIA Certifications. It wasn''t a large certificate either it was a 3x3 square on the envelope for the stone.

I was going to run the numbers through HCA and make a decision for myself.

I''ve done some price comparisons on Blue Nile & White Flash and nothing compares really. I''m wondering if it''s a lower quality rock and that''s the reason it seems sketchy he left out the crown & pavilion.

What do you think?

Welcome to pricescope.

GIA only has 2 widely distributed formats and neither one sounds like what you have been shown. They don’t use the term ‘H&A’ on any of their reports.

Chances are good that this stone was graded by some other ‘lab’ and without knowing who it was and what criteria they are using I wouldn’t recommend relying on any of the information included.

I actually found a GIA report with "H&A" in the comments....although it is a round stone. I was wondering about this as well...

I guess whoever sent the stone in probably requested that it be listed on the cert. Does that sound right?

They aren't describing the stone as being H&A. They are quoting something that's been written on the girdle. You will see all sorts of things ranging from brand names to serial numbers to personalized loves messages written on stones. If the inscription was there when they inspected the stone, GIA will quote it verbatim in the 'inscription' section of the report. This is not the same as agreeing with it. It may very well be correct but evaluating hearts and arrows patterning isn't a service offered by GIA.
