Hi everyone, I''m looking at getting a diamond from a pricescope vendor and having a custom setting designed at a local jeweller. I''ve been to a few local jewellers to get a feel for their services and help select the one I would eventually use. Is it typical for jewellers to charge an extra $200 approx to set a diamond that they are not supplying? I''m told this is to cover them in case the diamond gets damaged while they''re working on it. Also I''m getting pressure to purchase a diamond from them instead ("you must trust your jeweller", etc). But of course they don''t have nearly the info that places like Good Old Gold have on the stones.

I''m curious what other experiences people here have had getting a custom-designed setting for an Internet diamond? I would imagine it depends alot on the individual jeweller, but I''ve been to three in my city and have gotten pretty much the same story.

Mark u don't say where u r from. I am considering to have my internet stone set locally if I can at a shop in N. Hollywood Ca. The shop is Altobelli's and apparantly they got a fine reputation and are charging me 50 bucks to set the stone as I am considering buying the setting and 2 plat bands from them. They claim they have insurance for damage to the stone.

So if you are in Los angeles they may be worth a ring.
haha get it Ring!
