I really wanted to get a tacori setting but the one I want is just way too much for me (10k!!!) I will never question the craftmanship and/or beauty of these settings, but I can't justify spending that much on just a setting. Now I found people who are willing to give me a similar (NOT A COPY!) setting with a couple of original designs that make it unique but I've received varying quotes. I've gotten 2k, 1800, and 4k! for the same design. All of them will give me a computer image and then a wax mold to approve before casting and setting. My obvious reaction is to go with the cheapest person but of course that person isn't offering me the best deal on a stone. i'm just trying to figure out if the 2k quotes are more in line with reasonable prices or if the 4k is indicative of a better quality. These prices do NOT include the cost of side stones.

Cheapest isn't best. But if you post the design and let us know who you got quotes from we'll be able to help you better.

This is a link to the inspiration. I don't have an artist's rendering of the actual one i am getting yet but it will not have the classic tacori crescents or the pave set round diamonds. It will have a pear shape center and the pear side stones in prong settings with the basket setting and some other designs under the side stones. Because of the size of the center an the fact I am using a pear and not an oval (although I was told it will accommodate a pear) the setting would cost 10k. I neither want a copy (why lie about having a designer ring? It's one thing to have a fake handbag or jeans but I won't try and pass a fake tacori to my girl let alone risk getting my jeweler in trouble) nor is the jeweler going to copy it exactly but I've been told some different prices for 90% platinum.
