Hello! I'm very excited because I'm getting an exercise bike! But I don't know what type to get.

Any advice?

If I was buying an exercise bike right now, I think I would invest in a Peloton.

I currently have an exercise bike I bought on sale about 4 years ago. Between me and my husband we probably use it an hour every day, so it gets used. But the Peloton seems more versatile to me, especially with the programming.

I would recommend a recumbent for comfort plus a good cardiovascular (non weight bearing however) workout.

Here are some links to help you get started narrowing down your choices.

We got an Echelon in January. Best purchase.
It's similar to the Peloton, but less expensive.

I have a Peloton and love the classes! I would highly recommend it if cost (bike and monthly fee) is not a concern.

I bought a Sunny brand spin bike. I also bought a cadence meter and a heart rate monitor. I use it with the Peloton app. Overall I saved about $1800 on the setup. The app is only $13 a month, and I think if you have the Peloton bike it's $39 a month (but the whole family can use it, whereas the app is single user). I use my iPad to stream the classes. I don't end up taking live classes and don't really mind that I'm not on the "leaderboard" so it works for me.

Thanks for this link! I’ve been wanting to get a recumbent bike for the past year. I’ve been suffering from back problems and whenever I try my spin bike my back hurts like crazy. Not to mention my butt hurts as well!
We used to have an elliptical and a treadmill at the other house but we got rid of the treadmill BC it was so old. I think it was over 21 years old. When we moved here the movers couldn’t fit the elliptical upstairs or to the basement without taking it apart so I told them to just keep it.
Since then I’ve been wanting to get something.

I would definitely recommend trying them out at the store. This way you can see how comfortable it is and also how big it will be for the space you plan to put it into.
I myself have been wanting to get something for the past year.
I also looked into the teeter freestep which seems better for your joints.

You are very welcome.

When we moved from our original beach house to this current beach house I had to have my husband take apart my treadmill and elliptical to get it upstairs. It was a pain (took many hours to take apart and put back together) but for me worth it. The bike should be relatively easy to get up your stairs I think in comparison.

I want to add one thing. For anyone wanting to get into shape/get healthier I recommend incorporating weight bearing exercise in addition to cardiovascular exercise. I wish I had added weights decades ago and it is a critical component to good health IMO. Cycling is good for cardio but please add weight bearing exercise (walking/jogging etc) as well and lifting weights too.

HI:

I recommend Schwinn recumbent. I like ours!

cheers--Sharon

If you are able to do so, I would recommend trying out a recumbent before you buy it. I bought one without trying and it hurt my lower back and sciatic nerve. I switched to an elliptical and love it. I use it every day. I had a treadmill before the recumbent and it hurt my back too.

I bought a Peloton in February 2020 (talk about lucky, right before they ran out!). I'm doing a Powerzone challenge right now. I use the bike but I also use the yoga, stretching, weight classes, meditation, etc. I really like the community behind it as well. DH uses the powerzone classes with Zwift on his road bike and trainer. There's so much you can do with it.

Do you ever want to ride outside? If so, there are things called smart trainers. You hook the road bike into the device and it will take to all sorts of training programs. Just a thought…

I’m a bike rider/racer and this is how I do my indoor riding. Which with COVID, was most of my 3k miles in 2020.

I have a peloton one love it. We gave up our gym membership during COVID.

We have a Peloton and love it as well. Besides using the bike for cycling, I use the app for lightweight arms, barre, and Pilates. I have a favorite instructor and my husband has a favorite as well. We are insanely loyal to our instructors, lol. I like that there are a ton of instructors so you can figure out what kind of rides you like to do, or what kind of personality you click with.
