First off, I need to send a big thank you to the members here for all of your advice, comments and especially helpful threads that have guided me toward making my decision. After many months of searching, studying, questioning, looking, debating....I have finally bought the ring for my future wife
I started dating my girlfriend about 7 months ago and new very quickly that I was going to marry her. She's just everything that I didnt know I needed and now, couldnt live without. She's so warm, loving and caring and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her
On to the ring and diamond...
I knew that she wasn't a fan of the traditional round stones and that she wanted something a little more square. Princesses came to mind, but I didnt like their sharp, fragile corners, nor the small splintery look of their facets. Naturally, I moved on to radiants and cushions and looked at a ton of stones online and some in stores as well. I wanted to get an idea of what color range, and size would appeal to me and be within my budget. I've been a bit enamored for a while now with the August Vintage cushions that Good Old Gold has and I knew a chunky cushion was the way to go. Since they are a manageable 2.5 hour drive away from me, I had to see for myself in person if they were as special up close as they were in pictures. The drive was well worth it.
I worked with Charles who was a pleasure to deal with and who answered all of my questions, spending nearly two hours showing me the differences in colors and optical symmetry between the AVC's and the princess of heart stones (which are also fantastic, btw!) and how they reflect light back in a variety of lighting conditions. After weighing my options, I decided this was the one for me:

It's a 0.925 K VS2 AVC

Fluorescence: None
Lab Report: AGS
Lab Report #: 104054139009
In House: Yes
Width: 5.76mm
Length: 5.94mm
Depth: 3.77mm
Table Percentage: 48.13%
Depth Percentage: 65.49%

Crown Depth: 20.65%
Pavilion ∠: 38.96°
Pavilion Depth: 37.83%
As for the setting it's going into, after alot of deliberating, I decided to keep it inhouse at GOG and go with a Beverly K setting that I think will be stunning with this stone. I can't find it on the BK website, but I'll share one picture I took of the setting while at the store. Keep in mind, this is with an iPhone and is not optimal light or focus, so dont jusge the poor setting by my terrible photography
I'll be sure to do it justice once its complete and it arrives. Also to note, this is shown with a round in it where the AVC will have a larger crown. Finally, I've requested that the prongs be modified to be split and delicate like the ones in the picture AFTER the Beverly K setting. For those interested, it's a JBEG design and is truly fantastic, but out of my budget unfortunately.
The Beverly K setting:
and the way I'm requesting the prongs look for this setting. Short, pointed, delicate double claw prongs to expose as much of the diamond as possible.
More to come once I have more to show you. Again, thank you all for your help!
