First off, I need to send a big thank you to the members here for all of your advice, comments and especially helpful threads that have guided me toward making my decision. After many months of searching, studying, questioning, looking, debating....I have finally bought the ring for my future wife :)

I started dating my girlfriend about 7 months ago and new very quickly that I was going to marry her. She's just everything that I didnt know I needed and now, couldnt live without. She's so warm, loving and caring and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her

On to the ring and diamond...

I knew that she wasn't a fan of the traditional round stones and that she wanted something a little more square. Princesses came to mind, but I didnt like their sharp, fragile corners, nor the small splintery look of their facets. Naturally, I moved on to radiants and cushions and looked at a ton of stones online and some in stores as well. I wanted to get an idea of what color range, and size would appeal to me and be within my budget. I've been a bit enamored for a while now with the August Vintage cushions that Good Old Gold has and I knew a chunky cushion was the way to go. Since they are a manageable 2.5 hour drive away from me, I had to see for myself in person if they were as special up close as they were in pictures. The drive was well worth it.
I worked with Charles who was a pleasure to deal with and who answered all of my questions, spending nearly two hours showing me the differences in colors and optical symmetry between the AVC's and the princess of heart stones (which are also fantastic, btw!) and how they reflect light back in a variety of lighting conditions. After weighing my options, I decided this was the one for me:

As for the setting it's going into, after alot of deliberating, I decided to keep it inhouse at GOG and go with a Beverly K setting that I think will be stunning with this stone. I can't find it on the BK website, but I'll share one picture I took of the setting while at the store. Keep in mind, this is with an iPhone and is not optimal light or focus, so dont jusge the poor setting by my terrible photography ;) I'll be sure to do it justice once its complete and it arrives. Also to note, this is shown with a round in it where the AVC will have a larger crown. Finally, I've requested that the prongs be modified to be split and delicate like the ones in the picture AFTER the Beverly K setting. For those interested, it's a JBEG design and is truly fantastic, but out of my budget unfortunately.

The Beverly K setting:

and the way I'm requesting the prongs look for this setting. Short, pointed, delicate double claw prongs to expose as much of the diamond as possible.

More to come once I have more to show you. Again, thank you all for your help!

You got that right !

Thank you everyone for the kind responses! I think it will make for a beautiful ring once its complete. The K color is white in some lighting and warmer in others and this stone shoots a ton of fire and sparkle. I hope she loves it, but knowing her- anything I gave her would. As for "when", I haven't set a specific date yet, but I'd like to get married in the fall and I KNOW she wants to be married in fall :) SO, I'm thinking December/January at the latest. As for "how"...wow, not sure yet. I want it to be something special and romantic, but not over the top either. I know that I'd like to set it up so that after I do propose, we meet our parents for dinner to celebrate because I know she will want to share the moment with them.

Do you have any more pictures of the setting? Or know what setting it is? It looks amazing

Wow it looks like its going to be one gorgeous ring! Please come back and share more photos when you receive it.

Also, if you want to get married in the fall, I would propose as soon as you can. I think most people need at least a year to plan a wedding without getting too stressed. I had a year and a half and I thought it was a perfect amount of time. However, if you are having a simple wedding, then you won't need as much time but just thought I would mention it 8)

I havent been able to find my setting on the site. The closest thing is model 1120 which has milgrain on the shank and doesnt have the pave to the edge.

I was given number #99156 at GOG

More pics of the setting. I forgot that these were sent to me a while ago by Marie...
Again, this is pictured with a round.

Absolutely stunning ring!

Ok, so I have updates for you...

I got pictures of the ring and the work the bench did thus far at Good Old Gold. They split the prongs for me and sent me pictures. I'll post those below. After looking at them a few times, I really feel like they should be thinned down and brought to a point like my sample/reference picture (Posted above in this thread, the JBEG setting). In light of that, I have a few questions: Am I asking for too much? Is this modification realistic for this size stone in this setting? I don't know what it takes to accomplish this or if it's even doable at this size, so am I off base or out of line by requesting this? GOG has been awesome to work with, and I mean everyone from Charles, to Darren, to Marie. I want a certain look and I think it will be absolutely perfect if that can be done, but I also don't want to be realistic and not be that picky customer that is asking fo the impossible either...
What do you all think?

They could certainly do it, and I know a lot of people here would have the prongs made thinner. I think I'm in the minority, but I worry about my stone falling out if a prong got snagged on something and bent back, so I like my prongs to be what many PSers would consider "chunky." With that said, I think they can be made pointy without really thinning them down, and you should talk to them about that.

And the ring is beautiful! The setting goes quite well with the stone.

Distracts-

Thanks for your response. I think bringing them to a point from the current thiclness of the base, to the tip, will probably give me the look I want and retain good strength. Plus with 4 double prongs, I've got to think its more, or at least AS secure than 4 standard.

I can't really take credit for the setting. Marie found this one for me and it's quite a looker. It gives that nice antique feel which goes with the AVC cut quite well!

I don't care for the prongs. I don't think you can get them as small as the ones in the inspiration pic but to me the prongs look too far apart.

BEAUTIFUL - congrats!!

lovely ring and stunning stone.I really like the milgrain detail!!!
Good luck! :appl:

Send them a picture of the inspiration prongs and see what they say. I don't think you'd be out of line at all to ask that the prongs be modified. I think they'd rather hear your concerns than have you walk away less than satisfied.

I agree with slg--I think the problem is the prongs are too far apart. It will be a beautiful ring though for sure!

They are way too far apart and too thick. They need some more refinement and then they will look perfect.
I don't think you are being too picky at all. We've seen beautifully done double claw prongs on stones of all shapes and sizes.

I say go for what makes your heart sing.
