Excited for the Olympics!

I detest US coverage of the games and hate that NBC is completely after ratings vs showing the events live. Bob Costas is creepy and almost makes it unwatchable for me. I'm waiting for the day NBC no longer has the rights!

And for 2+ weeks, all I am going to hear from TGuy is how US coverage sucks which is almost more annoying that the crap coverage it self!

I've been pretty happy with the coverage. But I have DirecTV and all of the NBC channels, which means I can watch tons of coverage...all day long.

so do we, but in order to get some of the key events live, I think you have to go online and enter some info? Either way, I just think Americans are used to NBC's coverage - they've been doing it this way for so long.

Yes, so if you don't have cable, etc, then you can't get it live. We do, so I need to check it out, but I think you need a password, etc, which I don't have (I need to ask TGuy about that.) I have heard there are issues with the streaming quality, but hopefully it isn't that bad.

We've been watching them. We DVR them so we can FF through the events we don't care too much about watching. I don't mind the NBC coverage that much but what I DO mind is not getting enough of a spoiler alert warning before finding out who won an event.

I watched gymnastics last night...I have the same issue as Bela Karolyi regarding the really REALLY idiotic change to the rules on the all around competition. The best should make it, not just two per team.

See, I love that NBC airs the key events in prime time instead of live, because that way a lot of people who work during the day still get to see all the exciting events. I also don't have to worry about missing anything--I know that if it's good it'll be on prime time.

I am LIVID that I am only shown the US girls and a few russians, I want to see all of the good contenders, all of the Romanians, Russians, Chinese, hell the Italians. ALL OF IT. Why do they water it down and RUIN it by only showing the US?!

I do respect the athletic achievement but I can't stomach the political element...how many golds did US win compared to China, the playing of national anthems, blah blah blah.

SO AGREE. I do not freaking get it. The US is not just Americans of "standard caucasian descent." We are made of a LOT of various ethnicities and some people might want to root for their home country or maybe the country their elders are from just the same. I hate the way NBC is totally homogenizing it.

NBC's online coverage is excellent. I watched everything that way. You can establish a password through a link to your provider on the NBC site & from there it's a piece of cake. I especially like that they have cameras at every possible angle in all the sports I watched, so replays give you great views. You can get it to email you 1/2 hr before an even starts, to remind you. I think NBC ought to get a shout out for their job on the web, even if the tv stuff isn't great.

As for political leanings, all countries do it. We watched one year in Holland & there was a constant count of Dutch medals. The Brits do it. No big deal -- it's rooting for the Home Team, folks. Does not stop anyone from marveling at skill, no matter whose. Chill!
