Excise Tax on diamonds from Whiteflash back in Vancouver, Canada?

Hi Guys and Gals,

Has anyone have experience with buying a diamond from whiteflash or any online US website? What is the tax that they charge? I''ve read that the excise tax is gone but some people mention that they got charged it? maybe that was an old post?

I''m in AB and I recently got my ring from WF...all we had to pay was the GST on pickup. I suppose you would have to pay PST as well since you are in BC. HTH

did you have to pay duty at all?

Under NAFTA, there is no duty on goods manufactured (or mined) in North America whether it''s something Cdn going south or vice versa. So, if WF actually makes the ring, you should be A-OK on the duty front. Particularly if you ask for a Cdn diamond!

Cathers: I''m in Medicine Hat area. I didn''t pay any duty, just 6% GST at Fedex when I picked it up, which was around $200. Off topic again, waiting for customs REALLY sucked. It took a total of 5 days to have the ring in my hands b/c of the customs wait (Calgary).

I live in Alberta, Edmonton & I just bought a ring on ebay (which I would never ever do again).....I got charge 6% GST @ custom.

Hi I''m in BC and I got my ring and setting from WF and they didn''t charge me any sort of tax on their end there was the exchange rate of course on our dollar vs. theirs when I went to wire them the money to pay and then I picked it up from fedex when I was in the States and there was no excise tax or anything.

I am supposed to (cross fingers!) get my ring delivered today from WF. I checked with customs in Saskatchewan twice and they assured me both times that it was GST and PST only (although for AB there wouldn''t be any PST of course). No other duty/taxes should be charged. I can confirm today when it''s delivered.
