just happened to me. There was a BIG spider in my bathroom so I tried to squash it with my shoe. When I hit it, it exploded and a million little spiders came running out! I guess it looked so big because it was carrying an egg-sack. There were SOO many babies- it was like a Sci-fi horror movie. Luckily, we keep bug spray in the bathroom so I quickly killed them all. Then, I felt a little bad. I mean, all these spiders were just born and then they got killed immediately.. it is kinda sad. I know, I''m a freak

.
The thing that scares me the most is what if there are other egg sacks somewhere in my house. There were literally over a hundred baby spiders in that one!
It was just so weird to squash a spider and have it burst into a hundred little baby spiders!

Oh God. Spiders (and anything that looks sufficiently like a spider) are one of the few living creatures that give me the willies. I can't even be in the same room with one if it's bigger than a pinhead, even to kill it.

That's horrible!! I absolutely hate spiders myself. (Developed a horrible phobia as a child with the help of an older brother

) A few summers ago, I lived in on the top story of a two and a half story house. It was incredibly hot and I slept with the window open. Somehow, one of those bush spiders from outside crawled in. Including it's legs it was about a quarter of the size of my palm. It had short legs (relatively speaking) and a large body. I freaked out! Emptying a can of Raid on it just stunned it a bit. I had to whack it with a pot and the resulting crunch was terrible! I put a bucket over the corpse and stuck my iron on top for good measure. I eventually got up the nerve to vacuum it up. I admire your nerves of steel and wish I could be half as good.

The only spiders we kill around here are the black widows and the dwarf spiders. Those are the nasty biting and poisonous ones...all others are simply relocated outdoors.

Ewwww, that egg explosion is bizzare! I can only imagine the horror you experienced. I had a similar experience with a lizard egg once. But it was only one. And I guess it was ready since it wriggled away once the shell broke open. In actuality though, spiders (from a distance) don't bother me as much as cockroaches do (especially the gross B-52 flying ones)!!

'Ya poor thing!

When there are others around, I have them taken outside (most preferred method). When I'm alone, I can't pick them up to do that!

HA! You must live in the country. We peacefully co-exist here together in the country.

The only creatures that I aim to kill are fleas & ticks. I can not fathom a reason for their existence.

lol...yes, we live in the country. We peacefully co-exist with bugs, snakes, bears, deer, coyotes, and other furry critters. I detest bugs, but there are the acceptable ones that actually perform a service (like spiders). No fleas here, but the ticks are horrible. My golden retriever is just finishing up a month long script of antibiotics because he got lyme disease, and his left hip joint still isn't right. Another vet trip to make...ugh. At least neither of the kids got bit. Hubby has had lyme disease, and he said it was the most God-aweful pain he's ever had (envision a bowie knife stuck in your bone and someone is twisting it...that's what he said it felt like).

We've taught our son not to kill the spiders he comes across because of their bug reducing service. He's learning the purpose each animal serves, even our dog. In the warm months our dog lives outside, and protects our home from the unwanted critters. He's a retriever that thinks he's a lion. His job includes driving the deer away, and even the bears. This has been a busy summer for him as there has been a mother bear with two cubs in our neighborhood that has wandered onto our property on a few occasions. The last thing I need is a bear who thinks our property is a feeding ground (especially with two little ones, a third on the way, and a hubby who travels a lot). Allowing a family pet to be a chaser may seem harsh to city folk, but if you lived in the country like Wynan and I do you'd understand. Bears are dangerous, and deer carry the lyme disease ticks. The closer they get to the house, the greater the chance of the children getting the disease.

I wish I could have the same respect you do for all living things but I hate bugs. I am a girly Girly I shower every day, I hate getting Dirty. I hate bugs sooo much I hate all the Ticks and spiders and Ear whigs and silver fish and cockroaches!

You are so Brave Diamond Angel. When I go camping with my FIance when its night I am like glued him. I am sooon scared of bears when I go camping when... when in real life in my job I could be killed at any moment and I am fearless...

Trust me, I wasn't so brave the first time my son came in the house holding a snake that I couldn't identify! But you get used to it after a while.

And just for the record, I am QUITE the girly-girl...I wear Laura Ashly sundresses while fishing! lol...

Ha ha ha ha... Well I am 10 times worse the you seriously I am a huge wimp. I am scared of everything except Sharks. I'm a Shark Behvaiorologist and my job is to go out on a boat like 3 times a week and jump shark filled water and study them and I love it when I have bitten like 3 times(not serious) but I cannot spend a simple night without my fiance within 2 feet of me.

Just wondering Diamond Angel your icon is that you?

The only thing I fear more than spiders are sharks. And you work with them!? I'm off to Adelaide in November and I'm scared to go into the water...should I be? PLUS, it's shark week on Discovery and I swear that's where my phobia comes from. As for spiders, I just shoot them with rubber bands from a distance.

Well I assume your talking about Adelaide,Australia. If you are I am sad to say All of Australia's coasts have sharks...deadly ones. I dont mean to scare you saying you walk on to a beach you will see like 50 sharks swimming around...you wont. If you saw a shark swimming around near the coast it would be a fluke. The chances of you being attacked by a shark are one in 6 million I think. I mean if you are that nervous swim in a pool or go like 3 feet into the water. Dont wear anything shiny like jewlery, dont swim with open cuts no blood..A huge thing is if you see any fisherman around dont swim anywhere near them because where fisherman are there might be sharks. If it makes you feel better I have swam with sharks soo many times Id say about 5 different ones a week some are deadly like Great White sharks(jaws) and others are harmless. Lets see 5 sharks a week 52 weeks a year thats around 260 a year and ive been doing this for 3 years which means I have swam with around 780 sharks and I have only been bit 3 times and those 3 times which were stupid errors made by me which you would never find yourself in. Unless you are holding a bloody fish swimming away from a shark. If you to discovery.com they have alot of shark facts... that could make you feel better.

I have loved sharks since I was a baby so it came naturally to me...bears and camping I hate pretty funny?

To manhattan01,

Ohh my gosh, I feel the same way about sharks. Spiders for me are second on the list of things to be totally freaked out about. Did you see the Anatomy of a Shark Bite show where they showed the Great white downsizing that girl swiming? That will leave a permanent scar as far as nightmares go. They have this look of death behind their eyes.

Beansy!!! I saw that...horrific. It's so hard for me to watch footage from actual shark attacks. Spiders are different...you're not so helpless around them. Sharks...man...when you're attacked, you're in their element and at their mercy. But it's funny...as much as I'm scared of them I don't hate them. I love shark week on Discovery, think they're fascinating and very interesting...I just opt to stay out of the water.

And OrlyBear (I shortened your name...hope that's ok) it does make me feel better. I know it's an irrational fear...like how for some, flying scares them. I know there's a greater chance of me being hit by a car than having a tiger or nurse shark join me for lunch. But still...I've never seen a car grab my leg and twist until it came off. Ouch.

Well that Girl on Anatomy of Shark bit was dumb no offence to her...She got attacked by A Shark in great white country I would not be swimming there. Most people think sharks are mindless creatures who all they want to do is eat. I dont think so honestly I know for a fact each shark has its own personality... Some are more curious then others ect. ect. If you see a shrk it is probaly the first time its seen a human ever, they will probaly swim away or come just to see what you are!

Oh and by the way Manhatten A nurse shark wouldnt attack you...dont get me wrong they could hurt you bad but they never attack unless provocted.

I guess I'm one of the the only people who likes spiders here. I always carefully remove them from the house when I see them. Just this morning I had to air lift a daddy long legs from the bathroom and into the back yard.
But it must have been very scary to see all the babies run out at you that way, very sci fi horror I agree.

Yes, that is me...prior to chopping all my hair off last summer. Thankfully, it's all grown back in and getting longer all the time.

This is the full-size version of my icon pic.

Wow you are sooooo pretty... Your icon picture reminds me of Tiffany soooo much I do not know why lol!

lol...thanks. I'm not feeling so pretty tonight. My baby belly has started showing! At least my skin is glowing and my hair is gloriously full. Was the exact opposite when I was expecting our daughter.

Spiders are good guys. I only kill them if they come inside. That is breaking the rules. Black widows also need to die. For those of you who have never seen one..they are very creepy.

Nasty on the baby spiders crunching. EWW.

I am like DA mostly. No killing unless it is very necessary. All animals have a purpose. It is sad to me that so many people kill harmless snakes. They eat rodents! We need something that eats rodents. We had a mama possum in our yard a few years back. It was very cute.

Spiders are the worst thing ever for me. I kill every one of them inside unless Greg is around to rescue it and take it outside. Since I am a gardener I do not really mind the little light brown garden spiders, but if they come into the house, they are FAIR GAME. Stay outside in the bushes and they'll live a happy life. I have seen some really large spiders and I always get bitten, have since I was a little girl...10 bites on one leg once. If I am in a room with 10 people and one spider, the spider finds ME.

Here in N. CA we have black widows and all sorts of other interesting and scary spiders. I have probably hundreds living in the garden...esp since we stopped spraying last year. I have seen some pictures of brown recluse bites where they just eat away your flesh, now that is seriously freaky. Thank goodness that is Southern CA and not where we are. Black widows are poisonous but not AS BAD as the brown recluse and most of the time you can get treated for a BW bite and be fine.

YIKES...what a scary story. I think I would have passed out and been eaten by the spiders.

Orly..is that your picture of you in your avatar? It looks just like Jessica Simpson....ha ha...I have been watching too much TV (Nick & Jessica). Could that girl be any more idiotic or is it just me?!

Yeah thats Jessica Simpson I used to think she was sooo cool but after watching the Newlyweds I find her to be a spoiled annoying little brat...I wish I looked like her..My pic is my new avatar.

When I squahed the bug I was screaming and was like yelling at my dog to do something...he ran away lol So i saw the spray which my Fiance left out thankfully and sprayed away I drove like 30 minutes to my Fiances moms house to go take a shower in her house and for like a week after feeling ANYTHING on my arms or anywhere is scream thinking it was a spider.

When I told my Fiance over the phone he started laughing he thought it was funny. Hes never home so he cant kill spiders I am getting better at it. Ewwww Black Widows thats sooo gross. I hate land animals If i could have a pet shark that would be a dream but I cant so I settle to swim with them all day instead lol!
