Hello Pricescope community,

Over the last few weeks I have tried my best to learn the bascis about diamonds to find a great 0.4ct stone. In europe all you get with most online retailers are example photos so I started looking through James Allen. Unfortunately they were not able to provide idealscope images for any diamonds I looked at. I guess because those very small diamonds for american standards are not expensive enough. Because sending it back will not be a good option for me because I will loose the VAT I wanted to ask you for opinions on the options I found in big part thanks to this forum.

#1:
CA: 35.5
PA: 40.6
Table: 57%
Depth: 62%

#2:
CA: 35.0
PA: 40.8
Table: 55%
Depth: 61.9%
(Left and right arrow not visible at the same time?)

#3:
CA: 34.0
PA: 40.6
Table: 59%
Depth: 59.7%

From my understanding the first two should provide a combination of angles that should work most of the time based on the opinion of this forum. All of them have a HCA<2. Any opinions on leakage, etc. by the experienced members on here would be very helpful based on my inability to get any idealscope images. All stones are in the I-J color range with what I think is a yellow hue, because I plan on a yellow gold setting.

Thanks in advance and for the great information provided on this forum!

I have a couple questions.

Have you or your fiance seen J colored stones and are you both happy with some tint? It wont be much in a .40 but it will still exist.

Do you ever plan to upgrade in the future?

Whats your budget?

I actually prefer the look of the second stone...even though the numbers arent as good as the first one. I prefer the shorter lower
halves which provide for fatter arrows vs the first one that has very thin arrows. Of course, what you like may differ.

I have a .46 J and in this size its hard to see any color... YMMV.

My girlfriend has not seen any diamonds and doesn't know anything about them. She would not know that color and clarity are even important when looking for a diamond. We only talked about size and the style of the ring.
I was under the assumption that a J colored diamond would look good in a yellow gold setting, especially in that size.
My girlfriend would be very happy with any diamond, this is mostly about me learning not to buy at a shop in the local mall and trying to find the best diamond for the money. Also to add emotional value to the diamond by doing my research and selecting it very carefully.
The budget is around 700$ but not completely fix.

In a yellow gold setting and this size stone the tint should be fine, but just wanted to give a heads up.

I think the 2nd option is my favorite.

If you are located in Europe, I would advise you to check out the Blue Nile website. I have bought many diamonds from them and I'm very satisfied with the experience. They provide videos and real photos of their stones. Also, the VAT is included in the total price that you pay for the diamond and in case you need to return it, you don't lose it,because Blue Nile will refund the entire amount paid for the stone, including the VAT.

Thank you for the blue nile recommendation! I also found a number of diamonds that I liked.
Especially this one seems very good. It is on hold for me right now.

The I color looks very white to my eyes. The one snowdrop13 recommended seems to have a greyish hue in comparison. Additionally the angle combination of CA 34.5 and PA 40.8 is among the most desired/safest options from what I understand.

Any additional input would be greatly appreciated. And thank you very much for your help so far!

Beautiful stone...I think it is a good choice!

This stone looks lovely. Also, after having seen many stones between .40 and .50 ct in I color, i know that at this size the I color will face up very white. I think it's perfect!
