Hi

I am in the UK looking at eternity rings, and here none of the stones I have looked at come with certification, apart from an internal certification by the jeweller themselves. The comment is that for eternity rings (looking at around12-15 points per stone), it isnt worth it to individually grade the stones.

Is this the case everywhere? How do you judge the quality of stones in an eternity setting then? I have seen a whole range of apparent G colour, some with definate hints of yellow and others beautifully white.
So how do I get good quality eternity ring stones? And forget abut asking for further detail re polish, symmetry etc - no way would I get answers to these questions here.
So how much detail do you expect to be able to get for eternity ring brilliant cut diamond stones??

Oh, and in case anyone has kept track of my eternity ring dramas, I had a beautiful ring where the stone fell out, then the replacement ring had some issues with one of the diamonds- it looked awaful, the third replacement ring, the setting started to come loose again after a week, so in the end I got a refund and am back to the start looking for a ring or going to get one made.

Thanks

It is true that for stones that small, the melees in eternity rings are uncerted. That said, they are respectable vendors here on PS who stand behind their melee stones and guarantee that it is at least E/F and VVS or whatever they claim it to be, in addition to being very well cut. You are just going to have to trust your vendor so you have to pick someone reputable. If the vendor has eternity rings which he claims as G coloured but you see some with hints of yellow while others are white, I would not buy from him. If you have an idealscope, this really comes in handy since there is usually no information on melee diamonds.

This is good advice. It''s generally not worth it in my opinion to get certs for stones under .25 carats. However, this is certainly a difference in appearance from low quality and high quality melee. An ideal scope is a great way to tell if the stones are well cut.

Are you looking to purchase here in the UK? and are you looking for a full eternity or half eternity? If you can, I would purchase from the US. The diamonds you are getting are way better than here and about a third of the price. Would you consider purchasing from one of the PS vendors?
