Eternity Bands vs. Not??

Hey there,

If you read my previous post you know I will be heading to my jewelers tomorrow to talk about resetting my engagement ring and/or getting a new wedding band that better highlights my engagement diamond (most likely getting a new wedding band for sure). My question is, what are your pros and cons on infinity bands? Please let me know your experiences and thoughts on infinity rings.

What do you mean by the term "infinity"? I don't think you have the right terminology. Eternity bands means the diamonds go all the way around. That could be a 5mm band or a 1 mm band. Eternity doesn't tell us much.

I guess what I meant was Eternity bands... I've heard several people use the term infinity so I didn't realize I had it wrong.

I think this is really about personal preference. If I were you, I'd go to some jewelery stores and try on a bunch of different eternity bands with your ring, and see if you like them, and if so, which you like best.

My wedding band is an eternity band and I LOVE it. I've seen some people complain here on PS that their eternity bands are uncomfortable, or that the diamonds fall out or crack, but honestly I think these things aren't as likely to happen if you get a very well-made band. I've been wearing mine for four years now and it's very comfortable, and I've never lost a stone.

It is a very blingy look. People notice my set much more when I'm wearing my eternity band versus when I'm wearing just a plain band, so that's one thing to consider.

I think your e-ring is in an eternity setting, right? Since you want your center stone to stand out more, maybe you should look at eternity bands that aren't set with RBs, but rather with different shapes so your e-ring will still stand out on its own. For example, a more delicate (thinner) version of a band like this one would add more bling factor to your set, but it wouldn't blend in with your e-ring as much as a shared-prong RB eternity band would.

The biggest downside is that at some point in your life (after having children or after mid-life) you may gain some weight and your ring size may increase causing the ring to no longer fit. I do have an eternity now (after 30+ years of marriage), but I do not wear the same size I wore when I was in my 20's.

I ditto that. My knuckle got bigger, even though my ring finger itself is the same. You could go slightly bigger with an eternity since it doesn't matter if it spins.

This is a good tip. My eternity is a full size larger than my ring size. I just like my rings loose, in general, but it's also nice to know that I can go up a size and still wear my ring.

This is why I decided to go with a 3/4 eternity rather than a full eternity, I want to be able to size it if needed. But I will say that the ring always spins and the metal part ends up in the front so I'm always having to adjust it. If I could do it again I probably would have went with an eternity band.
