I have looked up old threads about this but found most to be about the e-ring, rather than an eternity ring. I''ve also brought this topic up in another post but no one answered my question about it.

This will NOT be a full eternity ring; it will most likely be 1/2 or 3/4 eternity.
1. Should I use all 18kt white gold? The vendor does not have Palladium WG.
2. Should I use a combination of PT for the diamonds and WG for the band?
3. Should I just suck it up and go all platinum?

This will be a stand-alone ring so there is no concern about rubbing/wearing down issues. The ring will be a shared prong style. I also have no nickle allergies on my fingers/hands. I do have one platinum ring and boy is it heavy! In short, I am not too hot about the weight of PT but with shared prongs, I am wondering if it is better/stronger to go with platinum.

Your thoughts?

I am no expert, but I do have a shared prong bangle bracelet and a 3/4 eternity pave three stone ring both done in 18 kt. white gold. I haven''t had any problems with either one and if I were making your choice I would probably go with white gold. I have a right hand ring that is platinum and I also find it rather heavy and hard to get on and off.

My LHR is full eternity, platinum. My RHR is WG. The RHR is intricate with a halo-I have had absolutely no problems with it. I like how platinum looks as it ages, but with the shared prong, I don''t know if it will be all that noticable- if yours will be 1/2, or 3/4, then I would go for the look and weight that you like. It can always be insured.

Personally, I''d go with the white gold. If you could get it in PT 900 instead of PT 950 and really prefer platinum, that would be good, but I''m hearing too many sad platinum stories on this board lately. Plus I don''t think you''re going to see a lot of metal anyway, so I''d go with white gold -- less money + more durable (it seems to me). I know some here love their platinum, but I dunno...me, not so much.

Very helpful replies. Does anyone in addition to Sundial have trouble getting their PLAT rings on and off?? Does this mean Plat rings should be a size larger or is it just because they are heavy that it makes taking the ring off harder?

I am now looking at settings and several posts have me leaning toward WG.

bahaha it''s funny that these stories are at the same time plat is so freaking expensive. It''s like *bonus* to switch lol

I have no problems getting my PLT rings on and off. I would have them size to your true finger size, unless you have a wider ring, which may need to be slightly larger in any type of metal.

Thaks Tacori -- I haven''t made my final setting choice yet. Just doing some advanced research.

OK well I''m going to pick a diamond next week and maybe a setting at that time too. So I guess I''m not that far ahead of the eight ball.

I want a setting that has a little pave and I have a WG wedding band. So the security of WG with pave and the WG band may push me into picking WG for the upgraded ering.

Anyone have any more opinions they''d like to share??? Either way please. You''d be helping me and the OP and any lurkers making decisions.

I like PLT for rings. I like the weight, the color, the fact you never need to replate it...but if you already have a WG WB I would stay with WG. I have heard it is unwise to stack rings of different metals b/c it will wear off the finish even faster.

Aaah Tacori what you just said makes sense. If the different metals are stacked together the FINISH on the WG will wear off.

THANKS for your input.

This is pretty much how I feel. I was totally planning to get platinum. I think there is sort of a romantic idea of having such a rare metal. But after reading all the stories here of problems with platinum rings, plus the jeweler told me that 90% plat. was so much better long term(but not accessible in the rings I wanted), I thought, now why would I pay 5 times more for a platinum setting??? So I ordered my Memoire shared prong band in 18K wg. It did help me to know that Sundial was pleased with her 18k gold three stone ring.

I like Platinum. I already bought one eternity band in platinum and will be buying another soon in plat. there are pros and cons with each metal and WG is "stronger" than plat. but plat is more dense.

i''ve never had any trouble getting my plat. rings on an off. I would size the ring according to your true ring size no matter which metal you choose.
