Hi! I'm a new member and newly engaged - have been pouring over the forums and love all the great advice and am hoping for some as well...

Looking for a standalone wedding band and settled on a diamond eternity band (size 6)...

1. princess cut channel set, 10 pointers - haven't seen all that many on the site, read somewhere that they were "all the rage" a few years back but don't seem to have much love these days. Mom thought that they look "dull" especially in a channel set. Is that true? I've seen them all over the map in stores with awesome lighting, but not that many in person. Anyone out there with this kind of ring care to comment?

2. emerald cut baguettes channel set horizontally, 20 pointers - not as flashy, the SO wasn't crazy that it looked "dark" on the hand

3. RB shared prong 15 vs 20 pointers - I like the 20 pointers but they seem a bit "too blingy" for work - I'm in the hospital setting with constant gloves on, gloves off so want to avoid anything high sitting. However, the 15 pointers lack the "scalloped" edge look that the larger stones give, which is part of the appeal

All three are about the same height, comfort level... just really really different looks. Hoping to get something that won't just "fall out of fashion" or look "dinky" years later... any thoughts? I do know that they aren't resizable, etc..

Thanks so much in advance!!

Hi MsWaffler! Congratulations on your engagement! Can we see the ring? :))

I have a full princess eternity, shared claw set & not channel, but it is in no way dull. My stones are .10 pointers, F colour & VS1 clarity. I absolutely treasure it & it only comes off for cleaning twice a week :)

I think this is pretty, but princesses may not be as popular years down the road.. One thing with princess cuts is that they will not throw as much light as rounds, and you would need to get a relatively "high" color to avoid them looking more yellow...

I think these look amazing when very clean, but they are VERY difficult to keep clean -- especially in a channel setting, because it is almost impossible to clean behind them... The faceting style causes the slightest bit of dirt, oil, or smudges to be easily seen.

I think 20 pointers would look AH-MAZING!!! But, if you feel that size to be a little too blingy, 15 pointers may be "just right" for you! I like rounds cuts because they are going to sparkle more and give off more light than any other cut. They are also very forgiving regarding color and inclusions if they are well cut. Personally, I'd go for the shared prong round eternity!! :love: :love:

Thanks for the advice, I didn't realize how high maintenance baguettes could get...

My e-ring is actually the profile photo... need to work on the photographs. It's basically the small Cartier orchid ring...melee sized tiny center diamond surrounded by pink sapphires set in rose gold. It sits so low that nothing can be placed flushed next to it, tried jackets, etc... the only option is custom made and in the end didn't seem worth it... not when the extra money could go towards a standalone wedding band! (the ering will either live on a necklace or right hand)

@AlexT
I hadn't thought of non-channel princess cuts... that's a lovely ring! Do the prongs snag easily? I'm assuming not too badly since it's so well loved!

Your e-ring is so unusual & beautiful! I can see why you are having trouble with a band though. And I think it looks good on its own :love:

The prongs on my ring are squared off. It was custom made to match my original princess engagement ring, which was sadly damaged beyond repair & replaced with the pear, but that's why the prongs are a bit unusual. They don't catch on anything, no, but it can feel a little uncomfy when its worn alone. I toyed with wearing on my RH when I got my pear because they are a bit mis-matched, or 'quirky' together, but it wasn't comfy & needs the other rings next to it to buffer it. When it is stacked, I can't feel it at all & even sleep in them :bigsmile:

I have no problems with the performance of my stones either, as they are super well cut & a high colour & clarity. I think with small princesses these factors are a must, so bear that in mind. I have a friend with a half channel set eternity with princesses, and they are a G colour, SI2 clarity, and they are VERY dull & lifeless...
