Against traditional wisdom, I am again wearing my ring. But today something made me a little nervous. I was pulling my hair up before brushing my teeth and my eternity band "snagged" in my hair. I have felt a little pull when i dry it when cleaning, so I was curious if it might be a prong has a little bit of roughness or if one is already lifted up. I don''t wear it all the time, in fact most of the time neither ring is on, but this has me a little worried.

Should I have whiteflash polish that down or can any platinum friendly jeweler do that? Do I want it polished? How would this be handled? I don''t want to risk major damage or loss of a stone if I get it stuck in my hair.

i highly doubt that your ring would risk major loss of a stone if it got stuck in your HAIR....(miss paranoid!)

BUT...i do also have some roughness on the prongs of my WF stone...really it's not so much roughness as that it seems the diamonds are set slightly lower than the prongs...and so they catch on things sometimes..i do not have this problem with my e-ring which was made by a local jeweler.

see if WF can bring the diamonds up to meet the prongs or shave the prongs down to meet the stones...i figure that mine was done as it was because they had to match the height of my e-ring and maybe that's why the prongs are taller, but maybe they could have brought the stones up a bit?

but to be honest, i notice it sometimes but very infrequently and i'm too lazy to worry about it...because again, i doubt that anything i could really do to snag a prong, aka on a piece of clothes or something would ever exert such force that it would rip a stone loose. esp with all this platinum around my stones...hehe.

I dont'' find it absolutely horrible but having it snag on specific fabrics is really just nervewracking. I get my e-ring stuck in my hair now and then though. Which can be funny.

I just wondered if maybe I can get them smoothed or if they will just do so on their own.

And yes, I still hold the title. Thank you thank you *curtsey*

Best bet is to have it checked by a professional.

Sometimes, it doesn''t take much to move a prong. It depends on how high it was set and how accurately the seats, or bearing were cut, and if the is space that is big enough for a hair to get inbetween the diamond and the prong tip.

One thing for sure, is that is won''t cure itself. Chances are as you have this occur it will worsen..

But best bet is to have WF look at it, if they are nearby you. If not find a local setter that is a true craftsman, and have him advise of guide you as to what to do.

There is a platinumsmith that supposedly is just the greatest in the area, I don''t know anyone who can confirm that but its worth a shot. I will have it checked out, either by WF or by a local guy. I don''t want to have issues later, paranoia or not.

I am not near Whiteflash and if my bosses would freaking let me come to Houston to visit clients I bet I could go there and have it checked out but NOooOOoo they won''t bring me! ;)

mine have not smoothed out in a year, ame...but again i think it''s because they were set a little lower than the prong heads. i have checked them a few times with the loupe and they look pretty secure, so i just think they did not bring them up high enough or maybe the prong heads are bent over them.....but again it''s not an issue for me since my ring has 4 prongs for each tiny diamond and is not shared prong.....if i ever send my ring back to them for something i will probably have them look at it, but my appraiser saw the rings originally etc and got the final seal of approval...so im not worried and feel like it''s more just a ''preference'' thing.

I emailed Denise just to be sure it's not something major that they should be doing. I just feel like it could just be a little bubble on a prong or something. There are a couple stones that seem a little lower but I can't tell even at 30x that the prongs aren't right, then again I have yet to master checking that thing out.

If Denise thinks its something a local can handle, I might go see that guy next weekend just to make sure it's nothing huge, and Im thinking it's probably nothing huge.

Often what can happen, especially with hair, is that it wedges between the girdle of one of the stones and a prong from the side, or wedges between the pavillion and where the prong meets the stone from beneath.

Have someone local you''re comfortable with take a look at it to make sure there''s nothing that needs some attention.

That was something else I wondered. I know my engagement ring had that happen a lot. Since the prongs have been redone by a different jeweler I haven''t had that problem again. Now I just get the whole head stuck in my hair somehow. I should just stop using my left hand to play with my hair.

I got a reply back from Denise (darn is she quick) and I will be sending it back to WF tomorrow so they can make sure it''s nothing huge, maybe they will lift some stones or just push prongs down or smooth it, whatever it needs to be. It will keep me from wearing it. I wish it was almost July....

*sigh*

*bump*

I just picked up the ring this morning 10am. It''s perfect. No snags that I have had yet. I wore it to the shower I was attending. My mom teased me.
