I stumbled upon what I think is a great buy. A 4.77 carat eternity band, D-F colour , VS1 clarity, going for 11K (Canadian).

It was 1/2 price, originally 22K.

It was stunning! The fire was incredible. It was at a very reputable high end store in Yorkville.

What do you guys think? It is my DREAM RING!

You have a picture? Sounds like a deal!

I'd want to know what the cut was like on the stones...a poorly cut stone won't sparkle like a well cut one. And make sure to get a chance to look at it outside of jewelry store lighting...that can mask a lot of problems.

But honestly, it doesn't sound like that fantastic of a deal...Signed Pieces regular price for a 4.52, F-G, VVS-VS, ideal cut eternity band in platinum is around $10k (USD) depending on finger size. And with that you KNOW the stones are ideal cut.

Thanks guys - I made a mistake actually :) It''s an SI1, nota VS1. The fire was blinding!!! probably due to the color & cut.
And it was covered with fingerprints. We did look at it under various lights.

So with that clarity adjustment....still a good buy? I was going to buy something from an auction house, Dupuis, but this one just captivated me. The economy is so poor here...that everything is being slashed. I was absolutely shocked when I reviewed the auction results. About 85% of the items were nto even bid on. A good time to pick up some deals if you have any extra income!

Did you see my note above about the regular price at SP?

You seem to love it so it doesn''t really matter. Is this a brand name band?

A high-end store in Yorkville doesn''t guarantee high-end products. I have seen stores there adding a significant premium on the same thing you can get else where.

I totally agree! a scam can happen anywhere. Eternity bands can be bought anywhere, so I was just curious if this was a decent price. If not, I can hunt elsewhere or have one made....they are all pretty much the same. There is no "name" attached to the ring.

I''m pretty niave and confused when it comes to diamonds and don''t want to bad deal. I''m just looking for some feedback as to whether its a decent price for the value.

And as we''ve said, you can get the same thing (or really better probably) for almost the same price EVERYDAY. So this is not the "deal" that they are making it appear to be. And you really know nothing about how well cut or not these diamonds are...

Do you have a picture? It sounds gorgeous!!!

HI:

Price sounds familiar (Canadian)...and I have a 6.25 (square emerald cut) asscher eternity, VVS1 & VS1 stones, F/G color.

Offer less!

Well I have not purchased it yet :) I wanted to ensure it was a good price. I am hoping to pick it up this weekend!

Below is a link to the picture. This is the one that is actually for sale. Its 2nd in from the top line.

It''s the top one, not the bottom pave one.

I was told to focus on colour or lack there of :) and that SI1 was the lowest I should go.

Yes well that is what they would tell you to focus on if they are selling an SI1 D-F colored ring. Personally, I would also offer less...I don''t like that they are claiming it''s half price and such a good deal when really, you can get the same thing, in platinum, all the time from other vendors.

But if it''s what you want, then it''s what you want.

HI:

Wow that is a surprise! I''ll have to check it out when I have time.

cheers--Sharon

The vendors did not tell me to focus on colour, that was the advice forum the forum :) They did not try to sell it at all.
I totally agree 22K was incredibly inflated to start with. But 11K sounds decent for 4.77 carats, SI1 and F colour set in platinum. There is not much in the Canadian market that I have found to be as good of a deal.

HI:

Before I bought my 6.25 ctw. asscher eternity ring--I looked at 4ctw eternity rings with rb''s for around 10K. And I found vendors locally would price match. I have a suspicion your vendor might negotiate--throw in the GST/PST, etc?

cheers--Sharon

You seem really set on the ring. I also suggest you bargin and see what you can get. Also, have you shopped around to make sure this is everything you want?

I''m with neatfreak on this one. If it''s your DREAM RING as you say, then go for it!

But I''m not convinced it''s a "great buy" in terms of monetary value.

My biggest concern would be - are they really D-F SI1, or am I being sold something else under that name?

OK so it’s a done deal. We bought it (goes to show you if you love it you love it, even if it may not be the BEST deal. Diamonds are also emotional not just logical right?) It''s not like I plan on selling it. I just don''t want to be ripped off.

We pick it up on the weekend and I will most defiantly post a picture!

Honestly, I can''t beleive people buy retail most of the time and pay highly inflated prices. Birks had the exact same ring advertised for 34K. I know the name has a bit to do with it, but the quality is the same! Other online stores and retail around here were at least 4-6K higher.

Thanks for all your comments guys. I know it may not be the BEST deal but I am really nervous buying things on line and I have done lots of shopping to know it’s a good deal around here, even if I could save a few $.....I feel its still a good buy. I will feel better once it is appraised by an outside source.
I find the value of diamonds so confusing...esp. when it comes to appraisals which seem to mean nothing and differ from appraiser to appraiser. I hear GEMSCAN is a really good place in Toronto for an honest appraisal. Any other suggestions?

As far as having the store substantiate what they are selling, what do I need to get from them? If it turns out to be a "fake" what do I need to sue/return? I suppose I should ask for the return policy too..UGH.....we did not do any of this!

That ring sounds gorgeous!!!!!! can I see a picture??? Where did you get yours?

It really is

We bought it in Yorkville (Toronto ON) on Bay & Bloor. The store is called Jasmine Fine Jewelry. Here is the website:

We were looking at DUPUIS, an auction house but when I was walking back and saw this baby...that was it ! I will post a picture this weekend when we pick it up.
Althought I don''t get to wear it until we are married (Late DEC)

HI:

Congrats on getting what you wanted. That is everything!

ETA: did you manage to look at anything else while you were there--were those yummy diamond "ball" earrings on sale?????????????

cheers--Sharon

You know what, I didn't, or, I don't remember. Once I saw my ring I was in a little bubble

As far as I understand the most reputable appraiser in Toronto is Harold Weinstein. We had our rings done there.

Congratulations on your new ring it looks gorgeous. Can''t wait to see the handshots

Do you have any idea what happens to items that do not sell at the auction?

Congrats on the ring, I can''t wait to see pictures!

One thing caught my eye though. You spent 10K on a ring and don''t know the store''s return policy? I hope they don''t give you a hard time if you decide to return it.
