Hello Everyone!

I don't really want a traditional engagement ring and our budget right now is tight - there are so many other things i think the money should go toward if we get engaged and married. Having said that, i would really like something that has presence and (some) bling :) I thought a nice decision would be to get a pretty band that i can wear and if i decide to, later on (if the budget allows it) i could add something more "ering-y" to it. I have always loved the look of bands, eternity or otherwise.

Originally, I thought perhaps i would like a 5-stone ring for an engagement (ala kcoursolle, orbaya etc) because they are sooo beautiful and you get bigger stones

. however, when i went and tried some on i was sad to find out i didn't love them on me

.

I think an eternity (or seven/nine stone) band is what i will eventually go with. Yesterday, i stopped by a local jeweler's that i like and she helped me try on a variety of bands and carat weights....1ct, 1.5ct, and 2 ct. Which one do you think i liked

?

They were all beautiful and i would be happy with any of them, but i figured since i am foregoing an "ering-y" ering, i will likely just wear this ring and a flat band. i want to get something i won't have to/want to upgrade if i can avoid it (which may mean staying away from PS

The two carat band was a gorgeous U - Prong band which allowed a lot of light in and was the design i originally loved

i can't get over the difference it makes in the light and actually how big it looks! She put it next to a 3 carat band that was set differently and they looked almost exactly the same....i can't get it out of my head.

The price for this ring was $2900 - the diamonds were very pretty - i don't know the color or clarity, but they faced up really white. Do you think this is a reasonable price? Do you think i could find it for less money through an online vendor? is it better to buy locally or no?

Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated!

Sorry, I can''t figure out what the $2900 ring is. Is it the 2 ct U-prong? White Gold? How many stones?

Oh, Sorry! The 2900$ is the 2 ctw u-prong eternity band....it was WG and i think there were 22 stones. - 10 pointers i think?

That one''s very pretty too! But it''s only 1ctw and my hands are kind of large

which i hate. I liked the 2ct weight better on my hand...but what i really liked about the band was the U-prong...it was beautiful. Think kcoursolle''s and orbaya''s bands but MUCH smaller diamonds and eternity style - same side profile. Someone here has this for ering, but can''t remember who...maybe they''ll chime in.

Oh, I love that style!!! There is eternity band with a similar style by Dimend Scaasi that I love too: http://www.dimendscaasi.com/wedding/forHer/pages/wed02F.asp
although, its 4K for 2ctw. Youre not comparing apples to apples here though, so keep that in mind. What a fun project!!!!

Hi Dani! you are completely right about apples to apples etc! i wish i knew more about diamonds....i don''t really have any! LOL. But i know 4K is more than i am comfortable spending, although SO could be convinced :) I just want to try and stay under 3K..without giving up the size of course

Oh, it''s KaraSue91 i was thinking of - she had this eternity band as an Ering and the one i tried was smaller i blelieve, but just that style....i loved it

James Allen has a very pretty eternity band that is 2 ctw for $2700. It looks very substantial as well. www.jamesallen.com.

I just wanted to chime in to say that I think a 2 carat eternity band would be beautiful as an e-ring!! I orginally wanted an eternity band as and e-ring and I thought 2 carats was the perfect balance between being substantial, but also still comfortable. Plus, I think it''s a great size for the U-prong (I LOVE the u-prongs!). If you go down to the 1.5 carat the u-prong doesn''t have the same effect.

It sounds like you love the ring and the price is within your budget. I can''t wait to hear what you decide!

I''m flattered that you like my ring!

I too love the U prong look because it allows you to see the diamonds from all angles (I am a bit biased though

). Have you thought about getting quotes for custom settings? With the way prices are nowadays, who knows what they would be. Can''t hurt to ask though.

What a fun project!

Thnak yo everone for your great input!!!

Orbaya, who could not be inspired by your ring - really it''s incredible...

New Englad lady, i really appreicate you chiming in b/c i know you have about the size hands i do! Asschers are my (and SO''s)) favorite stone, if i were to ge a solitaire :) In looking for an eternity band, I thought the 2ctw was perfcect too...just enough to give some presence withou being too much - it really was incredible...particularly the U-Prong style :)

Thank you everyone for such great information - any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

I''ve always liked the idea of an eternity ring as an engagement ring. The James Allen ring is really pretty.

Thanks everyone! that ring from James Allen is very pretty too! so many options :)

I forgot that i took a picture of the u-prong ring i tried on with my phone while i was at the jewelers - it's not the greatest picture, but it gives an idea of how it looks on my hand. i believe a ring this size would max out the amount i am comfortable having SO spend. As i mentioned, i tried on 1ct and 1.5 ct which were nice, but this 2 ctw was so pretty.

i thought it was substantial and very pretty, but was actually quite comfortable. Any opinions or thoughts on how it looks on my hand? would you go bigger or smaller or stay around that size?

thanks!

I think the size looks lovely!

I think that looks great!!! Who makes that e-band? Its very pretty! Do you have any shots taken directly from the front?

Oh wow, that looks fantastic!

Thanks Gecko, Dani, and NEL!!! i thought so too - when i put it on i thought....now THAT is perfect! but being on the website makes me kind of confused sometimes :) what i used to think was big now seems *not so big*
emembarrassed.gif
haha!

Dani, i don''t know who makes the ring, it was from a local jeweler, but i do know that they work with the manufacturer quite a bit....i''ll ask next time i go in and let you know. It really was a beautiful setting and the side view (although much smaller than the five ring u prongs i keep seeing) was really something. It let in so much light.

Sadly, that is the only (and terrible i might add) picture i have - boo. It was taken with my phone, which is why it''s kind of blurry. I am just starting to get SO''s head wrapped around the idea of the eternity vs. something more traditional, so i am planning to take him back with me sometime soon. When i do, i''ll try to get another shot.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I think it looks very nice!
