Hi fellow PSers, I need to vent about my engagement ring! As some of you know I was engaged on 1.21.10 and the ring was perfect for me, a 2+ ct solitaire cushion on a micropave platinum band. I was thrilled! You can check out my thread on show me the ring for pics. Since then however, it has been nothing but trouble. I think it might be cursed(it is an estate piece ha ha).
Unfortunately the ring was way too big for me, a 6 and I was sized at 4.5. First we had a hard time finding a jeweler willing to resize the band since it''s micropave/platinum and difficult to reshape without the pave diamonds popping out. After an extensive search we found a chain store that agreed to do it, which I was initially hesitant about. They said it would take two days to complete and we handed it over. Several days later my FI gets a call from an associate who said the ring had to be "sent out" for resizing and it would take 10-14 days. I was upset but figured I could be patient, I mean I waited months to get the ring in the first place! Over 2.5 weeks later the ring is finally ready, nevermind I had to call the store twice to remind me that they promised it in 2 weeks. I was superexcited to pick up the ring especially because my FI and I are visiting his family in RI this coming weekend - they''ve only seen pictures thus far. End of story, right? Wrong!
I get to the store and a saleswoman brings out the ring and proceeds to ask if I want to try it on. Ummm, yeah, I just had it resized lady! To my dismay, the darn ring still doesn''t fit. It''s not falling off but still is a little loose. The sales person said to give it a couple of days but I could tell the ring could be a little smaller. When I asked about resizing it again, they said it would be sent out, and would take another 2-3 weeks. I told them I was going to hold on to it since we were visiting family this week and would think about it in the interim.
So fast forward to the next day, my FI saw the ring and agreed that it''s still too big. He didn''t like the craftmanship on the part of the band that had been resized (it was a little uneven and scratched, not polished smooth). In addition we both noticed a dark reflection on edge of the center diamond and wondered if the setting had been tightened when it was resized. Fed up with chain store we decided to take the ring somewhere else and get an opinion on resizing, etc.
A day later we take it to a jeweler that a friend recommended. He agreed that the more noticeable reflection was likely due to the setting be tightened and felt that the ring could be downsized a little more. To better view the diamond he asked if he could clean it with the store ultrasonic, we agreed. He warned that sometimes loose pave diamonds pop out BUT SAID IT ALMOST NEVER HAPPENS. So a few minutes later he takes out the ring and believe it or not, a stone is missing from the band! Unbelievable! Luckily he was able to rescue the diamond from the ultrasonic and said he would do the reset and resize at no charge to us. He went on to explain that he sends it to CA and it usually takes 3 days max. Only problem is the FI and I are leaving Thursay afternoon to travel to Boston! And I really want the ring to be fixed by then. SO the jeweler, who''s a sweetheart says if we cover the cost of return shipping (about $30) he will have the ring sent back for Thursday morning, which is like a day turn over time!
Who knows what will happen next but this tiny ring has made me so stressed out over the past few weeks. Just need some pricescope support! Thanks guys!
