I posted my proposal idea so please check that out as well. I explained I want only the best for my Gf soon to be Fiancee.. I know that it SHOULD be Quality over Quantity. I have an Aunt that was in the Jewlery Buisness for a LONG TIME... Regional and National Manager in a few different Retail stores that I won''t mention. She promises to help me as she has a lot of friends in the buisness still. I am wondering what realistically should be my goal for the ring. It is gunna be White Gold setting with 4 diamonds on either side that are set into the ring to where they are flush and then the center stone. I want the absolute best I can afford for the centerstone with it to be realisitic in size. She doesn''t want anything crazy big but I know that she would like something to show off and be proud of... under about 7500 what should I be looking for? lemme go into more specifics... Round Cut. Minimal flourescentsl (I am aware that ever very flourescent diamonds only show in certain light) so I mean like nothing that has an obvious tint. Is something in the .75 -1.10 too much to be asking for? I would like something along maybe VSI or SI but nothing visible to the naked eye... I hope that this makes sense and doesn''t contradict anywhere. I am not an expert but I''ve been reading around a little and I am not sure how common each of these are ? Thanks for any help!

Hi FOOLINLOVE! Welcome to Pricescope!

When you're talking about the setting...four diamonds on each side, flush, then the center stone...is this what you're talking about?

http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Platinum-Diamond-Channel-Setting_623.htm

It's platinum, but I'm sure Whiteflash could make it for you in white gold. However, your budget of $7500 or under is pretty nice, and you could most certainly afford platinum if you wanted to.

This stone below is a great choice for your girlfriend's center stone. It's a 1.01 ct, G SI1 with no flouresence. It scores a 1 on the HCA:

1.01 G, SI1 ($5190 with the PS discount).

Together, the setting and the center diamond would put you at $6185.00. Let me know if you need help finding anything else!

That is beautiful and exactly what I am looking for. She saw a ring like that and said that she wanted the side diamonds ..erhm..excuse the lack of jewler jargon.."crushed" or maybe moutned to where they were in there more smooth but not princess cut. Is there anything that fits that description? I was told to stay away from Platinum (By my Aunt the Jewler..who money isn''t an issue for). She only buys white gold for herself and others. So do you know why she might have said that? I am just curious on that outlook. I have a hard time getting ahold of her and I am still waiting for her response on that one! Thanks I will def have to talk to you more about this!

Foolinlove,

I was told at the jewelers to stay away from platinum too. I wasn't sure why, as I'd read the pros and cons and had already decided on platinum. Here's a list of pros and cons to help you decide further:

Platinum vs. White Gold

Regarding the "crushed" diamond look...is this what she's talking about?

Platinum Pave Setting

It's called pave, and it's generally meant to look like diamonds were "sprinkled" onto the band. It can get quite expensive, but here's a setting that's similar, and around the same price in white gold as the channel-set setting I posted before:

Pave Knife Edge

The ring Ebree posted is called a "channel setting with round brillant diamonds."

I don''t know why your aunt favors white gold over platinum, but plenty of people do. You can search here on PS for the positives and negatives of both WG and platinum. I personally prefer platinum.

Awesome! that helps me a lot! Thank both of you. I don''t personally like the Pave.. I don''t think that is what she was refering to.. but then again I would have to have her check for certain. Unfortuanately she doesn''t know very much about rings and I don''t think a lot of it matters to her, she isn''t very materialistic. I just know that I want to get the most beautiful ring that I can for her. I liked the channel set round brilliant cut the most. TY!
