Hi everyone,

I''m having a very difficult time deciding between a pear (with a halo) and a round brilliant solitaire for an engagement ring. I know they are completely different but I''m completely split on the decision. I''m wondering if anyone has any valuable advice to help me make a decision. Thanks!

Have you looked at diamonds in person? I was dead-set on getting a cushion until I saw one next to a round brilliant. The fire coming off the round was unbelievable.

Another thing to consider is whether you''ve always liked pears and whether or not you''ll get tired of one.

I know that''s not much help but it really is such a personal decision...

I have seen both of them and I definitely agree with the fire of a round brilliant. The thing that attracts me to a pear is that its a bit more unique. But, realistically I could see myself with either! thanks for the advice =)

I agree that is the best thing to do for now, as you could feel differently once you compare the two, but this will make the decision easier.

I like unique myself, although I''ve swayed back and forth a lot over the years. You can''t go wrong with a classic round, but maybe you will always wonder what it would have been like to have something that stands out a little differently... what kind of trade in policy will they have? A good trade up policy ensures you can change your mind with little financial penalty, down the road. (Unless you have it custom set in a halo right away-which would be costly to change obviously.) Is this ring for you or your fiance?

Either would be beautiful, but I know what you mean about being torn on the decision. What is it you like specifically about each? Would you consider a round with halo? How about both?

Do you want a ring that''s not like everyone else? Do you want to be able to change/ stack different bands on the same finger? Not much help, I know. If you listen to what your eyes are always drawn to then you will pick what''s right for you!! Also, try them on to make sure you like the looks on YOUR hand. Good luck!

I forgot - I don''t know if you are the he or the she!! Agg!

Why not a round centre with pear sides??? I am so in love with this one: (Reis' Ering)

is one as an e-ring and one as a RHR possible

OMG, deja vu all over again. I am about to die laughing because of another alj who was "unmasked" as female in what has to rank as one of the BEST all-time PS threads.

Threadjack over.

I agree with the suggestion to get out there try some different rings on. This will definitely help you decide.

However, if you want my personal opinion I would go for the round. They sparkle like crazy, they are easy find in well-cut, they are easy to set in stock settings, they are classic, etc.

I agree with the round. They never go out of style and are always beautiful. I like pears and would consider a pear shaped RHR of some kind, but I would (and did) choose round over pear for the e-ring.

I''m having a major crush on big pears right now - so much so that I know I could go completely off them in a heartbeat. They strike me as very glamorous, very 1950''s, but having a little renaissance right now. I think I would choose a pear over a round, but an OEC round over a pear.

Truthfully, I want one of every shape... but if I had to choose one today (I wish!), I think it would be a pear.

I was torn between a round and a radiant and I went for the radiant. (Mine is in a halo as well.) I don''t regret my decision, but a well cut round diamond definitely performs better than my radiant. However, I would still go for a fancy shape if I had to do it all over again.

I just love how unique they are and I get compliments all the time. I love pears and they face up really big so that''s another bonus. But also keep in mind that a round looks great in a halo as well, so it doesn''t have to be completely either or!

I have already decided that my next diamond will be a 1.7+ ct. pear halo set Harry Winston style. I have a Jubilee cut and today just purchased a round to set into a halo RHR. So you see, I am no help because I have had to buy 2 diamonds already to satisfy my shape fetish and I am already wondering when I can buy the next one.

I think the round with the pear sides is a great idea! Ritani makes a 3 stone halo so you get the best of both worlds!
