Hi my platinum engagment ring that I purchased from Blue Nile has started to be come oval around my hand. The ring is actually 9 months old, but 3 months into having the ring one of the small diamonds fell out. i sent it back and they installed another. Sunday I noticed that the ring was obviously oval now and today another one of the diamonds dropped out. I am sending it back and am actually asking for a refund since this is the second time. I believe it''s a defect in the ring itself. Any ideas why the ring would go oval. The ring fits perfectly, not too tight or loose. I definatly don''t abuse the ring. Please help. It''s the 4 prong set platinum from Blue Nile.

Thanks
Sandro

Is it a super thin shank? The only rings I've ever had go out of round are very, very thin shanked sterling silver cheapie rings. I am reallllly hard on my stuff- I never take my rings off- and I've never had even some of my delicate antique platinum rings get mooshed out of round, and some have very thin shanks.

I'd say you're on the right track returning it. Only 9 months into wearing a brand new platinum ring I can't imagine it ought to do that, especially with the melee popping out too; maybe there's something wrong with the metal's integrity. I'm not an expert on what can go wrong with casting platinum, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is possible that some problem with the casting could affect the integrity of the metal. Sorry to hear it, that does sound like a pain.

If it is a really thin band you might consider getting a different style next time, I guess. Good luck!

Most platinum alloys are easier to bend than white golds.

It probably just needs a thicker shank - that will be why diamonds fall out too

its not that uncommon do you work with your hands? exercise while wearing the ring?
garden?

I know someone who had too go with a thick shanked solitaire for exactly this reason and why I went that way with wifey2b''s rings so she could wear them all the time.
