I've never really been a diamond girl, and so I've been thinking about this a lot.... are all engagement rings strictly diamonds?

Do you prefer diamonds? And if you could not get one, what are some lovely alternatives to the diamond?

I've been looking into pink sapphires recently. Obviously, pink is not a traditional color, but I hardly ever wear neutral jewelry or the same jewelry every day. Something simple, with a silver/white gold band ideally in the shape of a flower.

I think you can get whatever gem you wish for an ering. You should pick out what makes you happy.

Whatever stone and setting you like best are the ones you should get!

My original engagement ring is a blue sapphire.

You can have whatever you want.

It used to be very common to have colored gemstone engagement rings in Europe. If you go over to the Jewelery Pieces forum, there's a thread about royal jewelry pieces. Using diamonds for an engagement ring, anniversary bands, etc is due much to marketed (by DeBeers). That said, diamonds are very hard (10 Moh), durable, and come clear, which means they match with everything. I don't know of anyone getting tired of diamonds.
