I have seen alot of negative talk about the Shane Co. My mother has had great experiences with them so I am kind of confused on what to do. I will be asking my girlfriend to marry me nest month and need to get a ring. Problem is I only have around 1500 to spend. The prices being thrown around on this site are way out of my price range. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as far as a store and the quality I can expect to receive in my price range?

Thanks

I think you could get a nice solitaire, maybe about 1/2 ct, in the H-I, SI1-2 range. Here is one from Whiteflash (not their branded H&A but could be a nice stone): diamond

I''d spend your money on a well-cut stone with major sparkle; I think you can achieve a beautiful ring with that $1,500.

As for Shane & Co., what defines "great experience?" Did your mom get what she paid for in terms of verifed quality and pricing? If so, then check them out, but it is hard to dismiss the substantial bad feedback they''ve earned.

Are there local vendors you''d be more comfortable with? Do some more homework--your goal is achievable.

You might also want to consider an antique ring or a ring with a gemstone instead of a diamond. Some of them are very charming and you can get a lovely ring within your budget. Good luck to you!

What shape are you looking for? Round?

To save money and not compromise too much on color, I''d stick with an H/I color SI1 or eyeclean SI2. I think with your budget you could get an ideal cut .5 to .6 ct stone with these specs, and a white gold solitaire setting...

Try dirtcheap diamonds. Their prices are great (best online in most cases), and their web site is very easy to use.

Maybe something like this would work for the center stone?

.53

Good luck!

You might want to consider a 3 stone ring as well. You can get a lot more carats for your money that way.
