Hello,

I've been looking for a round ideal cut stone for an engagement ring and have absorbed the amount of information that makes me dangerous but not useful so was hoping I could get some additional perspectives.

I recently discovered the HCA tool and have been using that to screen options. There are two below I wanted to ask about which received a .9 and one which received a .7

I know that these are considered better for a pendant or earring setting but wanted to understand why that might be, and how this knowledge might be applied to these one of these stones which would end up in a solitaire setting.

These both appear to be within tight ranges of what performs well for a round stone, but I'd hate to get this close and then buy something that is unideal for a ring due to a nail head, fisheye, or other light issues I'm unable to identify as a layperson.

the 1.61 ct stone is ~500 cheaper at around 17.3k as compared to 17.8k so any commentary on the value of these would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance for your perspective!

Do you have link for 1.6ct? The images for the 1.61ct do not look very promising.

Both links are the same stone. Can you link to the other option ?

Frankly I am not in love with either option. What is your budget and preferred color/clarity?

I am looking to keep things around 17.5k or under for the stone

I'm looking in order of priority
1. Amazing light performance
2. Size 1.6+
3. I like less color so targeting F here but open to G for the right stone
4. Clarity - definitely looking for something eyeclean so had just been looking at the VS1s but I know VS2's are another good choice in that neighborhood.

The 1.6ct has more potential vs. the 1.61ct. Have you requested advanced images (Hearts & Arrows, IS, ASET)?

Yes I've reached out and will hopefully be receiving back an ASET for the 1.6ct

I agree that the 1.6 has more potential than the 1.61, but I'm just not crazy about either.

If your #1 priority is light performance then I would look at whiteflash.

Both a hair under 1.6ct but not enough to make any difference IRL

Other than great light performance, I Iike a pretty diamond for my ring center stone, which means the shape itself is pretty to look at. With the depth below 61 and crown height less than 15.3 I will not get this stone. Because I don't like flat looking diamond, doesn't matter how good is the light performance. I saw one super ideal, good light performance but flat looking and I returned it.
I think with your budget you actually can get a 1.6ct G VS2 ACA from WF but they don't have it right now. If you don't have any timeframe maybe you can wait for a little bit. You can contact them and ask them if they have any diamond in your specs coming too.

Looks like the 1.57 G VS1 sold. Hopefully you grabbed it, @johnb123!
