Hi everybody, I am new here and am looking to get a non traditional engagement ring. I have found a website called Front Jewelers. They have some awesome rings but their prices seem to be low for colored diamonds. I have done some research as to their certification and realize it is not the top GIA. That isn't what I am concerned with right now though. I found a very similar ring (will post links) on ebay for a couple hundred dollars. Makes me think that I could get the ring on ebay cheap, or... the ring isn't that great and I would get hosed on Front Jewelers. Please, anyone with knowledge help! I don't want to make a big mistake.

Front Jewelers :

Ebay :

That isn't the ring I am actaully looking at but if it is true for one ring on the site, then I would assume that it is true for all. Here is the ring I am thinking about buying.

Thanks in advance!

Blue diamonds are one of the costliest fancy colored stones around. 1 carat for $3k+? It's irradiated or treated. Can you live with that? None GIA report? You won't know what you are getting. Are you willing to risk it?

In my opinion, it's a diamond and probably one that is very low in quality (clarity and color). That's the reason why you get unbelievable prices. If you don't mind all that the diamond is treated, I would say that the ring has a nice design and concept to it.

That ebay listing is sketch. What color is H/Jet Black?? Also says "not enhanced."

The blue diamond with black electroplated ring is pretty, but what color is the gold underneath when the electroplating wears down? IMO, for a ring like that, it has to be a very nice blue diamond, and the workmanship on the setting has to be excellent, or else it will look like costume jewelry.

I think that if it was legitamate, I would pay for it. But my first section is what I am more worried about. These things may be way overpriced at Front Jewelers and just really poor quality. I don't mind them having altered color or anything.

I think the saying 'you get what you pay for' applies here. I think that it's a nice design but I would be concerned with the quality of the ring. You don't want to have those tiny melee falling out all the time and needing to be replaced. Since this will be your engagement ring, I assume that you will be wearing it daily which will just add to the risks. I don't know anything about colored stones, so I won't comment on the quality of the center, but I will say, that this may not be the best setting option for you.

probably out of budget but....

Maybe we can take a step back and describe non-traditional. What are you actually looking for?

I can see an elaborate design and a colored stone - blue, black? What does your girlfriend actually want?

There are many deals that can be had on ebay for even quality diamonds.

Well a black setting with either a black diamond or blue diamond is what we have narrowed down to. She loves flowers and hence loved this ring.
