Hi all. A newbie here shopping for a modest engagement ring. Of course I first stopped by Tiffany''s. I was eyeing a 1.04 D VVS2 there, and that was just shy of $15k. I''m intrigued by what Bluenile can get me, but am a bit overwhelmed by the selection.

Here are the parameters I entered into Bluenile.

Princess Cut
Carat : > 1.0
Cut : Signature Ideal
Color : D-G
Clarify : FL-VS1

Questions

1) This yielded me a lot of stones in the $6 to 8k range. I picked one out of the mix, any thoughts about this choice?

1.04 Signature-Ideal F VVS1 1.01 GIA $8,634

2) I may be able to spend a little more (say $10-$15k), how would I upgrade?

3) How important is the L/W ratio?

4) Does Bluenile offer a setting that''s close to the classic Tiffany setting?

Thanks in advance for your help everyone. If anyone would like to recommend a specific rock, I''d be more than happy :)

What about this one from Whiteflash?

Whiteflash is very highly recommended on these boards (for customer service and upgrade policy). I don't know anything about princess cuts, but WF also has special categories of well cut stones, so they do some of the work of sorting for you. That one is from their A Cut Above stones.

good luck! I'm sure others more familiar with princess cuts and BN will chime in and help you out!

or even this one!

If BN, consider ignoring their cut classification, and go for AGS 0. Read about this.

Read also about the value of reflector technology, especially for non-rounds in evaluating options.

Best wishes...and welcome to Pricescope!

In the 6-8K range, here is a gorgeous 1.23 ct. G/VS1 priced at $7612 bank wire. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/2421/

In the 10-15K range, here is a gorgeous 1.51 G/VS1 priced at $11,175 bank wire. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5071/

If you can go down to an SI2 and this one is eye-clean, it looks awesome at 1.76 ct! You will have to contact Jonathan or Sarah at GOG to ask if it is eye-clean. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3765/

They can set it just about any way you want-- a simple solitaire setting or any of the designers that they feature on their site and some they do not!
