Greetings Everyone,

I noticed this forum has many members with several informed replies. If you could help me choose between the rings below I would be very appreciative.

1. Round 1.03ct, E, VS2 $5,000
2. Round 1.08ct, E, VS2 $5,700
3. Round 1.07ct, G, VVS1 $5,700

The main stone is enhanced, stone is set in 14k white gold with matching band (.60ct, F, VS2). Found it on eBay from the Nathaniel Jewelry Store.

I'd like to know which is the bigger jump in noticeable quality, the color or the clarity. I want a diamond that will shimmer in the sunlight. Finally, do you think this is a good buy. My budget is $6,000 max.

Thank you in advance!

Dustin

what do you mean enhanced? clarity enhanced? I would be careful as sometimes enhancing a stone can make it more vulnerable to cracks and chips.

to be very honest- I would NOT buy that set. The pictures are not great, you have no idea the cut quality of the stone- and cut is the determining factor in how much it will sparkle- and the clarity enhancement is a deal breaker for me.

Also- without knowing the cut quality of the stone, while it may be a 1ct, it could be cut steep and be only facing up as /75, .80, who knows! You wont have any idea how that stone will perform.

We can certainly help you find a better quality ring here...

Ditto what Farmer Gal and Amy have said! Stay away from ebay and clarity enhanced stones unless you have a lot of experience with buying and selling diamonds. You can end up paying a lot of money for an unattractive stone or, worse, be scammed by dishonest sellers.

There are much better options available through the companies Farmer Gal and Amy suggested. $6,000 is a healthy budget. You should have no problem finding a nice stone and setting for that amount. Does the $6,000 include the wedding band, too? Or just the engagement ring and diamond?

Thank you all for the information, I love the setting farmer gal suggested. I really like the antique look. My budget is for both the engagement ring and the wedding band. I'm finding some really nice stones on the site suggested by Amy but they are $5,000 for just the stone. I guess I will have to settle for a .70 ct or less. However, if I get a stone with a really nice ideal cut that really shines in the sun, I think she will be happy.

I'm glad I posted on this site, I would have made a big mistake buying an enhanced stone from eBay.

She has small skinny fingers, her ring finger is 4.5 to 5. What's would be a reasonable size, maybe a .75? From what I've read on other forums on this site, I want to focus on cut first, then color and clarity. So that's what I'm going to look into.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks!

Dustin

I think 0.75 ct is a great size! Another way to maximize budget is to get a diamond wedding band and a solitaire setting for the engagement ring.

Here is another set that has that antique look. I would call ED and ask if they can check to see if this diamond is eyeclean, and make sure you get the pricescope discount.

Total for both rings and diamond would be $4942.35

Setting:

Diamond:

Matching band:

My 2 cents...if I had $5k I would not buy a clarity enhanced stone. Buy a nice smaller stone that has tradeup options down
the road OR a nice second had ring.

Agreed.

Thank you all for your information and suggestions. I ended up purchasing a used Tiffany in the classic setting and will buy the wedding band later. I bought ring for $5,400 and it appraised last week for $9,400. I may come back for advice on the wedding band but I think I might go with the matching Tiffany band. The stats are below:

Carat Weight: .87 Carat
Color Grade: F
Precision of Cut: Excellent
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity Grade: VS1

The proposal is February 25th! Thanks again!
