Hi all. I am new to Pricescope, and I am newly engaged!!! My boyfriend of 9 years (yes, I was patient) decided to propose to me on Valentines day. Although his ring choice was simple and lovely.... it just wasn't making me jump up and down. I realize I am being materialistic, which is very unlike me, but if this is a ring I will wear for the REST of my life - I want perfection.

That being said, I tried on a Hearts On Fire ring the other day that made me giddy. I LOVE IT. Here it is: http://www.heartsonfire.com/shop-jewelry/rings/engagement-rings/transcendthreestonedreamengagementring.aspx

For many of you this $7,900 ring is very affordable, however, for my amazing fiance it is out of price-range. We are finishing up college and have thousands of dollars in debt weighing on our shoulders. The ring he originally bought me was $2,000. I love vintage, art-deco inspired rings that are set LOW. Can you please help me find something similar to this ring for a lower price? We could probably manage $3,000-4,000.

Thanks,

--Kelly

So are you looking for just a setting and to reuse the diamond that your FI proposed with?

Honestly if you are in debt from college (as I was with my DH) I would hold onto your current ring and in a few years upgrade. Many people on this forum did that exact same thing.

EDIT: and 7.9k for a 3 stone ring with .50ct is just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can do so much better for cheaper. Go look at IDJewelry.com. They have some gabriel and co settings that are lovely and very affordable. Are you local to NY? If you are then go to IDJ in the diamond district and have LuAnn help you.

The engagement ring he proposed with is a solitaire ring. The diamond is a .53 carat round cut. How would I find a setting that already has all the side diamonds but could accommodate my .53? I'm an ammature, can you tell? My boyfriend is much more knowledgeable about this stuff. In fact he was the one who told me I should use this forum. :)

Does it have to be a princess cut center stone? I don't really think of princesses as 'vintage,' more like Old European Cuts or transitional cuts that are between OECs and modern brilliants. With that said, I think you could find something lovely within budget if you are flexible on specs.

A $2k ring from Jewels By Erica Grace that I think is the 'full package' of being fairly inexpensive and totally gorgeous:

Scroll down on this page for pricing: http://jewelsbyericagrace.com/antique_vintage_and_reproduction_rings

There are likely others from JbEG that you might like, and under $4-5k.

Another idea: do a vintage style setting from a company like Gabriel & Co., this is just one example, you can search by all different kinds of parameters and budgets:

And get a stone from a vendor that sells Gabriel & Co. settings. Either ID Jewelry (www.idjewelryonline.com) or Good Old Gold (www.goodoldgold.com) are vendors, I believe, of their settings. A couple stones from GOG which could be pretty:

A modern round brilliant: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7459/
An 'August Vintage' branded Old European cut-style stone: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9068/

You'd want to call ID Jewelry and tell them you came from Pricescope and want the best for your budget.

No it does NOT have to be a princess cut. In fact, I don't even like princess cuts - but the hearts on fire ring I like has a halo around it giving a rounded look. I love the rings you showed me, especially that old European one from Erica Grace. My only concern is that the setting will sit to high on my finger. I want a low setting so it feels more like it's wrapping around my finger rather than sitting on top. Does that make sense?

Thank you so much for all you input.
