Hi, just joined the site in looking for information on jewelers for purchasing my engagement ring. I''m big into researching anything before buying it (especially a purchase like this) and actually found out about the site through Consumer Reports. After reading some other posts though I''m feeling overwhelmed and back to square one. I know exactly what I want and am looking for a good price for my boyfriend.

First, what do people recommend for jewelers on the Front Range in Colorado? I liked the service at Sartor Hamann in Fort Collins but was concerned about pricing. Other than that I''m trying to stay away from chain mall stores. I know the mother-in-law to be''s ring came from John Atencio in Broomfield. We''d be willing to travel anywhere from Fort Collins south to Denver to look and buy.

Second, how has the internet purchases been? It seems like people say they get good deals but I''m still concerned about purchasing on the net. If so, what sites are recommended.

I know these are kind of broad questions.

Hi Melissa. Welcome to PS. You mentioned you know exactly what you want; so I was wondering what you are looking for.

I like the Shane Company really well. There are 2 stores in Denver. My ering is from Shane Co; I picked out a Shane Classic and absolutely love it. It''s an ideal cut RB. John Atencio is very nice but I think they are pricey. I personally haven''t bought from any of the websites that are popular here on PS; but I hear great things about them. I''m sure you''ll get a lot of help here.

I''m looking for a platinum solitaire with a minimum of 1/3 ct. up to 1/2 ct. diamond.

I actually started doing research because of Shane Co. I was interested in going there but then I got worried because of posts I saw. I''ve now been poking around on Blue Nile because they have been rated best online jeweler by Forbes for years and found some quality diamonds at good prices. And they have the exact setting I want for the lowest price I''ve seen.

Your ring sounds pretty. Blue Nile has a great reputation on PS. I went local because I wanted to be able to take my ring in to be cleaned and checked the extra $$ was worth peace of mind to me. I wouldn''t hesitate to buy from the PS vendors though any other piece of jewelry.

Decided for sure to go the route of a store rather than online. It was actually his idea to be able to know exactly what I''m getting at purchase and to get benefits of purchase from a store (i.e. cleaning, sizing, ect.). Your replies were influence in that response also. I''m going to go talk to Sartor Hamann in Fort Collins again but I''m also going to go to Snyders in Longmont because of their features for purchasing through them.
