Hello,

Long time reader, first time posting to the forum. I am taking the plunge and have been ring shopping for last few weeks.
Currently I'm deciding between:

Round Brilliant
2.12 carat
J
SI2
Cut Grade: Very good

vs.

Round Brilliant
2.01
J
SI2
Cut Grade: Excellent

The 2.12 is about $1,000 less and comes from a friends company that I think is giving me a better deal. Both stones look about the same to me ~

My question is: How important is the Cut Grade of Excellent vs. Very Good.
Are there any other ways you would recommend comparing these two (other than a side by side comparison)?
I have the GIA reports and can give additional info.

We need all the numbers from both...diameter, table, crown angle, pavilion angle, depth, polish, symmetry, girdle....etc.

Agree w DS - need more details.

Just to add, in a larger stone of over 2cts, quality is magnified - both good and bad. Size of course will be obvious, colour will be more noticable, clarity may be more visible - but you have to check on eye clean at what you want it to be - 12"? 8"? 6"?

please come back with more info.

Sorry, let me give more info:

Stone A:
2.12
J
SI2
Cut Grade Very Good
Symm: Very Good
Polish: Very Good
Flourescence: none
Measurement: 8.13 - 8.2mm x 5.14 mm
Table: 59%
Crown angle: 35.5
Pavilion angle: 41.8
Culet: None

Sorry I don't have any info on the other stones. But any opinions on this 2.12????

Thanks in advance.

Lots of expert will chime in here, I'm sure, but I'm going to say that you won't regret an excellent cut stone over one that isn't. You're obviously saving $ by going with a J SI, so I would "pay up" for the excellent. I'm sure you'll get some more specific feedback.

Whoa, a 41.8 degree pavilion angle. You generally will want to stick with 41.0 or less. This stone likely has leakage.

Skip this one and go for the one that is GIA Excellent. No question if the only choices are these two.
