I have a question: Is it reccommended or common practice to repair a broken platinum band with a partial white gold shank? The background: My wifes platinum band broke (the side opposite of the head) and the jeweler noticed the band was also coming off at the head, they suggessted and repaired it by resoldering the head and replacing the broken piece with a partial shank...the platinum portion that broke was very thin. Just curious to know if this repair will hold up...thanks for any input. Harv.

Is there a reason why the jeweler wouldn''t replace it w/ platinum?

If it''s opposite the head of the ring a jeweler w/ a laser welder should be able to fix it using platinum.

I didn''t realize they did white gold until I picked it up and asked some questions. I had asked about a replacement band and the cost was more than I can afford at this time. Regardless, it is done, just want to know if it is done properly.

I am sure the shank repair will be fine. I would ask how the platinum was welded/soldered, because many jewelers use gold solder on platinum and this can lead to issues.

Thanks very much. I''ll ask, I know it was dipped rodium. thanks again.
