Does anyone else think that their FF/SO will be proposing without the e-ring. I know my FF plans on proposing before the ring is ready and I was just wondering if any other LIW are in a similar situation.
 
Paris, you need to light a fire under your SO! I want to see that 2ct HoF :love:.

No, I am pretty sure he will have the ring, but I wouldn't be upset if that was how it happened.

The only downside would be telling everyone with no ring. It would be nice to gush over the ring with my friends at the same time as gushing over the engagement :lickout:

But really it wouldn't be a huge deal, I would be happy to just be able to gush about him!
 
I think we might get engaged without a ring. He wants the proposal to be a complete surprise but I really really want to be involved in picking the diamond and the setting. I think he will propose with a fake ring first just to have something to propose with and then we will design the actual ring together.
 
There has been some discussion of this in the past with ladies receiving a place holder
of some kind till they could look at rings together and collaborate on the design..
A stand in made of drinking straws or from a gum machine could be sweet and romantic.
Proposing empty handed not so much
 
Well, I'm in a same-sex relationship and I proposed to my GF with a ring. I'm also a girl, so I would like a ring and haven't had one until now (about two months since we got engaged). I have a ring being made at BGD though, so I'll have one soon! It is a bit of a bummer to be engaged without a ring, but to be honest just knowing we are engaged and that we love each other SO much makes me smile every single day. The ring will just be the icing on the cake!

The first time I was engaged (to a guy), I was OBSESSED with the ring. I truly wasn't all that into the guy anymore, but figured after two years (and being 26 years old) it was time to get married. Yeah, I shoulda known it was about the person and not the ring, LOL! Duh...
 
My boyfriend is adamant that he will not propose without a ring. He probably won't, but I would really love it if he did, especially if he proposed on our Disney vacation in October. To me, nothing could be more perfect than a dream proposal at Disney followed by shopping together and picking out my own ring! But he is of the opinion that it would be embarrassing to have no ring to show family and friends when we announce our engagement. Since I assume he won't have the time/money to purchase a ring before our vacation, I suspect I will have to wait. I know it will be perfect whenever and however it happens, ring or no ring, October or next year. I'm just trying not to get too caught up in the details.
 
One of my friends is engaged without a ring. My first reaction was, "But you're not wearing a ring..?" which was thoroughly rude of me. She handled it graciously and just said that she wasn't into rings. Shrugs. She's American, so it is customary here to wear e-rings.

It was surprising the first time I heard of it, but since then I've seen about 2 more friends do the same thing, so it wasn't really that weird. My second friend got her ring at her engagement party which was just before (as in, just days before) the wedding so that all of their friends and family could be in town to share the occasion with them. She had been engaged for the previous year and a half leading up to the wedding, but just waited to receive the e ring until just before the wedding.

The third wasn't quite "engaged w/o a ring" but they planned their proposal to be at their engagement party; he made a speech, got down on one knee, etc. the whole shebang. So..I guess that's just another twist to it?

While I'm sharing stories, I've always wanted to share one about my cousin's wife's choice of e-rings/wedding rings. My cousin's wife chose another ring that looks like an e-ring (ie solitare w/pave) as her wedding ring. Sometimes she stacks her solitaires, and sometimes she wears them separate. First time I've ever seen that before.

Oh, I love these! Thanks! I can try to plant the idea, but I can't really ask my boyfriend to propose when I want him to, so I'm not getting my hopes up too high!
 
I collect antique Erings and often wear several on the same finger
I have about 80 rings and otherwise I wouldn't get a chance to give them
all "hand time".
 
Since my boyfriend knows I'm a jewellery addict :Up_to_something: and we've found an OMC diamond together locally so I don't think my proposal will be without a ring. If he were to ask me without a ring that would be just fine though, I am marrying him and not a piece of jewellery.
 
SO has half jokingly asked me to marry him a few times (the majority of which after he had had a few drinks) so I told him they only way I'd know it was real is if there was a ring. That being said I have nothing against others getting engaged without rings. I think in this day and age they are both totally acceptable options.
 
Personally, it would be nice to have the ring, but i just want him. He knows this, which is why i think im not engaged yet, he wants me to have a nice ring. Also, he ust like to put me through unneccasry toture. :evil:
 
I'm really into jewelry and would honestly prefer to be proposed to without a ring and then find one together. My bf is sweet and I love him but he is the worst shopper ever! I also don't need a surprise proposal, so it really works for me!
 
Well I think BF's plan was to propose without the ring and then have us pick one together. But, we may also buy the ring first and then he will wait to propose (which I know will be extreme torture!). Right now though, I'm not financially stable enough for us to get engaged or married, at least in my point of view. However, if BF has the money and my dream diamond (yes I already found it! :devil: ) is still available, I may ask that we go ahead and buy it and get engaged once I am more financially stable so that it isn't snatched up by someone else!

ETA: Plus I would love to have a ring to be able to show everyone when we announce our engagement. I don't think a ring is necessary to be engaged, but my family and his are very traditional and probably wouldn't consider us really engaged until there was a ring.
 
Well according to my boyfriend, he thinks having a ring to propose with is a must. He said if he was able to afford a ring, he would have proposed when we go on vacation to St. Thomas in about 11 days (who's counting!). To me, that would be the perfect place because at any beach I feel rejuvenated and happy. I can't really think of a more perfect place. I told him that if he felt it was right he could do it without a ring...but he shot that down. I then told him that he should just tell people that I'm a control freak and wanted to be involved in the ring process, haha. So unless he is going to completely surprise me which I do not see happening because I know his finances, it appears that it will not happen without a ring, and most certainly not in the Virgin Islands...oh well. Girl can dream, right? :bigsmile:
 
I've thought about this particular scenario a couple of times myself. My ideal proposal spot is Paris. We've discussed taking out first trip there together in the near future, so my mind is FILLED with all the wonderful possibilities. :naughty:

He knows my dream is to get engaged in Paris, however he also wants to have the perfect ring to present to me when proposes. Currently, my bf's finances are not in ideal condition, which brings us to the question of what will happen once we are in Paris? If he is unable to save enough to get my dream ring, should he go ahead and propose without one? A less than ideal ring, perhaps, and get the perfect ring a little later? Or should we forego the ideal proposal spot and do something sweet and simple with the perfect ring? For my situation, I'd hate to go to Paris and NOT be proposed to (with or without a ring). If he's unable to present me with the ring, I'd hope that he'd propose anyways and take advantage of the wonderful opportunity. Although, I have to admit that I'd hate to come back empty-handed while sharing my wonderful proposal story with all my friends and family, so I'd have to say I'd probably like SOMETHING to put on my finger in the meantime. But he is the type of guy where EVERYTHING has to be perfect, so I don't know how this is all going to play out?? :roll:

I guess it all comes down to priorities. I don't know the details of your situation, however it sounds like it is quite different from mine.Is the proposal already planned but the ring is not quite ready? And is it a rush to get to the proposal for you guys??

My FF and I both decided maybe I should be getting a little larger diamond, closer to 3ct. Still waiting on prices from my jeweler. I should know tomorrow when we are making the purchase ( I think this coming week) :twirl: . Proposal should be right around the corner.
 
My 2.66ct solitaire is arriving tomorrow... I'll post in your other thread if it looks ridiculous or not (ring size 5.5). No pics until I officially receive the ring, though :blackeye:.

Have you looked at the 2.56ct at BGD? That was one I considered, and I was told it was eye clean and very white...

My jeweler says there is a HOF round around 2.5 cts in my price range. Hopefully it will be available next week. What does BGD stand for?
