Take me off the list - my boyfriend (fiancee now, I suppose :appl: ) asked me to spend forever with him last Tuesday!
It was our first full day in Hawaii, and we had set out on a hike along the Na Pali Coast at about 8 in the morning. We hiked the first 2 miles of the Kalalau trail to Hanakapiai Beach, then 2 miles inland to the Hanakapiai Falls. The hike was incredible - challenging but amazingly rewarding (in more ways than one!) We only saw one other person on the trail on the way to the beach, and there were only a handful of people at the falls. The trail winds through the cliffs that line the coast, giving you some of the most breathtaking views imaginable as you climb and descend about 1200 feet in the first 2 miles, and then follows a "stream" into the valley through jungle, climbing another 800 or so feet and crossing the stream several times, until you reach the valley's back wall: a stunning 1000+ foot waterfall, of which you can see the lowest 400 feet or so. The falls plunge into a freezing cold pool that you can swim in: a welcome break after the hike!
Here are a couple pictures I took from the hike:

Anyway, we reached the falls and were both in awe. I was busy taking a few pictures, and turned around to tell my BF I was concerned that we didn't bring enough water (for the record, we did not...). I got about 1/2 that sentence out of my mouth when I realized he was down on one knee. He said "Melissa..." and at first I didn't know if he was for real or if this was a "fake out" - he had teased me before our trip, saying he might pretend to tie his shoe and pick things up off the ground, etc, to keep me guessing (I knew the proposal was coming, afterall!)... Then I saw the ring in his hand. He said something along the lines of "will you marry me," and I got down on the ground too and held him tight. We hugged, kissed, took a few pictures, I said yes at some point, then he told me how the last year has been the happiest of his life because of me, and how I make him want to be a better man. I said some sweet things too, and we celebrated with a dip in the take-your-breath-away cold pool under the waterfall, then hiked the 4 miles back to the trailhead, stopping for a swim at the Hanakapiai Beach, and also at Ke'e beach (where the trail starts). We headed back to town, had a few mai tais, showered, dressed up nice, and went out for a fancy fish dinner. Best day of my life. So far... Best. Vacation. Ever.
I'll upload some ring pics in a minute!

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats, that's so exciting!!!!! :appl:

Absolutely stunning pictures - beautiful setting for a proposal! Can't wait to see the ring! Congrats!!!

So, the ring. I love it  (and I did NOT look at it before he gave it to me - even to my OWN surprise! :saint: )
It's an oval diamond, set east-west in an open bezel setting. The stone is 1.00 ct, GIA G, SI1, eye clean. She's a complex little beauty, with absolutely no bowtie unless you tilt her at crazy angles, and then she'll show you just a little bit of her moody side. She's full of fire, and sparkles bright white. In the past week, I've had two strangers come up to me and say that they spotted my ring from across the room and had to take a closer look at it :) The setting is 14k unplated WG, made from a gold-paladium alloy. It also appears very white, with a little bit of creaminess in certain lighting. I've already dinged up the setting a bit, wearing it hiking and snorkling last week, so I'm sure I'll have to get it re-polished every now and again. I banged up the bezel a bit too, which I can't really notice except for in these pictures, but that can also be polished... The ring is size 9, which fit me great (if not a little snug while hiking) in Hawaii, but is a little loose right now in our 30 degree weather... I'm going to wear it a little while and then try to decide if I need to size down to 8.75 or so...

by the way, taking pictures of rings/diamonds is really HARD! My camera and/or photographic abilities are obviously not cut out for this - I feel like the ring is so much more gorgeous in person! (I know, 'cause I stare at it all day long :D )

Yay!!! Congrats!!! Your ring is super cool--classic, yet still very unique!

We're going to Mexico in 10 days. Hoping my turn is coming up =)

the bezel looks kinda wonky in the middle "fire" shot due to lighting and angles - in real life it doesn't... I love that picture of the stone though, so i thought I'd post it anyway!

Congratulations on your engagement!!! Woo Hoo!!! :appl:

That looks like a stunning site to receive the question of a life time - and sounds so perfect, too! Not to mention how gorgeous your ring is - wow!!!

Most off all ---- I'm so pleased you never peaked at the ring - I know you wanted to, but you were strong and waited for the proposal. Congratulations on that act of self control!

Congratulations!! Your ring is beautiful!!

Congrats on your engagement! Your ring is lovely. :appl:

Congrats!! :appl: :appl: It's a beautiful ring and your proposal location looks beautiful too! I've always wanted to go to Hawaii!

Congratulations on your engagement! :appl: :appl: :appl: :appl: Your ring is gorgeous  and has wonderful presence on your hand! And how perfect to be engaged just before Thanksgiving.

We were in Hawaii last week, too, and we saw a couple walking to a romantic spot on the beach. FI said, "That guy is gearing up to something!" because he looked so nervous. I thought it might be you and your BF about to propose! But your FI did even better proposing on the Napali Coast -- the most beautiful place on earth!

I wouldn't size the ring now if it is only a quarter size too big. It will fit snugger once you are wearing a wedding band with it.

Congrats on the engagement and stunning ring!!!

Congratulations! :appl: I'm glad your FI proposed early during your vacation and didn't make you wait. Beautiful ring and pictures of Hawaii!

Awwww!!!!! :appl: :appl: :appl: Congratulations! What a dream-come-true kind of proposal :) Your ring is beautiful, thank you for sharing with us

were you on Kauai? He totally played it cool and was not nervous at all - I really wasn't expecting it right then, I thought he'd do it on the beach at sunrise or sunset. I think he was just glad not to be responsible for making sure the ring didn't get lost anymore! I was happy to take over that responsiblity! :naughty:

Congratulations! Your ring is amazing. The oval is perfect with the setting. I've been dying to see it ever since I first found the thread where you talked about having larger fingers (like me) and described a ring that sounded exactly like what I've been dreaming of. It's definitely going in the inspiration folder for my boyfriend!

Congrats!!!! Beautiful proposal and beautiful ring!

Thanks! That is very flattering!
I am definitely conscious of my fingers being big (I just have big hands in general - in day-to-day life they don't seem freakish, but on PS they're definitely larger than average! At least my fingers are fairly longish, rather than short and pudgy...), and was concerned about finding a flattering ring as a result. I could not be more thrilled with my ring in that regard... I think a setting with a lot of delicate pave etc would look a little out-of-place on my hands (also, I'm just not that fussy or girly of a person), and I think the EW oval makes my fingers look a little less wide (maybe?) The fact you get a little extra face-up size with an oval for the carat weight doesn't hurt! My setting is simple, it lets the center stone shine, and I'm really really happy with how it looks on my hand :)

Sorry I am responding a little late, I was on a beach in Mexico with the FI for 6 days myself but...

*****HUGE Congratulations!!!! *******

How exciting! Hawaii is definitely an amazing place to visit AND get engaged :D

The ring is a stunner, it looks great on you!

Before seeing your ring on you I was wondering if the east/west setting would give the illusion of a wider finger, sort of like horizontal stripes, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. The oval just gives you more diamond-finger coverage. I've been thinking of a ring that has the same shape as yours, but with a few accent details like milgrain and maybe a pave band. I want a plain wedding band and I'm not overly girlie either, but I still wanted some extra sparkle somewhere. Do you think you'll have diamonds on your wedding band?

Congratulations, what a wonderful proposal and beautiful ring!!! :D

Yeah, I was really surprised it didn't make my finger look wider too, but when we were playing with the loose stone we could tell that EW made my finger look less wide/more coverage, whereas NS didn't do anything for me...

I am not 100% decided on my wedding band yet. I think probably I'll go with plain. I use my hands A LOT and in the last 2 weeks I have banged up my ring to the extent that I think I'm going to take it back to the jeweler on Monday to have a few dings in the bezel repaired... I would DESTROY pave! Plus, I just really enjoy the elegant simplicity of my single stone.
