So the day and plan turned out great! Thanks PS'rs the diamond is great. btw, the 1ct looks pretty well big on her finger! had we gone shopping together, I don't think we would have gotten something this size. But I'm really glad I did it on my own for her, it does look very classy and nice on her.

My fiance ;) thought it was too much, expecting something much smaller.

anyway, I have to vent a little because I'm a bit off about the ring - it's something I will contact them about and correct but it is mildly irritating considering.
not letting this spoil the mood mind you, and I expect JA will correct these things without me pressing the issue but i'll record the details as I go for the benefit of future shoppers.

Size-

Now this was one point I was crystal clear on. I wanted size 5.
Originally I ordered 6, but then I found out her size was 5.
-I phoned them and asked for the change. "no problem"
-same time I emailed saying "I called to change to 5, please note"
-finally I emailed to verify and "double check" my order was a size 5.
-they emailed back saying it was double checked and a 5.
-when I got the ring, I emailed saying "there is no documentation on size, can you verify"
-they emailed me back saying, "yes it's a size 5"

When I slipped the ring on her finger, it was HUGE! I thought, wow, 5 was way off! She was not totally sure about her size so, ok, NOT A BIG DEAL. (I just didn't like the whole FEDEX thing, lost in the mail, etc.)

So we stop at a jewelry counter to check her size- well it was more like 4.5ish. I thought wow, .5 is a big difference... so I size the ring... it's nearly 6.5!!

For a moment I was pissed! Well, 5 would have been off it seems, so I can't be too bent about it. However, I can't help but feel if it were 5, we might not even be visiting this issue as she might have been set on keeping it at that.
In my eyes, no matter what her size discrepency; they guaranteed the ring would have to be sent back even if she was a perfect size 5. So it doesn't matter what the 'correct' size ends up being, it was wrong to begin with and would have to be sent back anyway. That is on them, imo. what do you think?

We are going to double-check her finger size tomorrow and I will call JA monday/tues about this.

#2-
the mounting seems a bit loose.. ! I am able to just barely move the diamond in the mount if I grab just the stone. This is loose, correct?

for those that have sent rings back for resizing to internet vendors, what is the proper procedure for mailing? I assume FEDEX, as that's how it was sent. Do they pay for this typically, considering my situation?

If you hung in there and read all my rambling, than thank you for your continued advice!

Congratulations! But bummer about the ring...

If you can move the stone it''s definitely loose. I''m not sure about how to ship the ring, but your jeweler should be able to answer that question. Hope this helps a little...

Good luck!

sux that this happened :{
Call JA in the morning ask too speak too Jim and he will get this fixed for you asap.
I believe in going right too the top in cases like this.

ditto!!

Send the ring back through the Post Office, registered and insured. It is the safest way. (you'll neeed to discuss with them on who will pay)

I'm sorry things didn't turn out perfect, but I'm sure JA will fix everything without an issue.

that''s why PS and PS are so great...

Are you the same Josh that I spoke to today? I should have checked this site before I called! Thank you for writing here.

Anyway, here is the progress for those keeping score.

-I briefly explained on the phone and they immediately said they would take care of it, I didn''t even go into detail about the mistake but they were very "on top of it".

-I got the FEDEX return info (paid by JA) within hours! and so I printed out the info and shipped it off.

-There is internet tracking which is nice, I am a bit nervous about the ring going thru the mail but I do feel comfortable having JA do it.

-None to worry on the loose stone, JA told me it''s par for the course to check the mounting as they resize.

My fiance and I sized and settled on 4.5 which is "perfect". We are a bit worried if her knuckle swells but right now, when it is on, it''s not tight or loose and she doesn''t want the ring to ''fall over'' on her finger.

The actual ring size ended up being 6.25.

The service from JA has been excellent from the start. It''s too bad that this mistake occured on the only point I was so adamant about. However, it clearly benefits me as the ring size will be more suited to my fiance than if it were my original order, so I will not look a gift horse in the mouth!

I will update when I get the ring back, JA said it would be monday or tuesday. I think that''s great turnaround time.

I am so glad it all got resolved. Sounds like JA has excellent customer service!

I just wanted to add that I went through similar minor issues with my new ring from JA and they were excellent about fixing every single problem and they were also really nice about it. Even though it''s a hassle, have no worries they will make sure to get it right for you. Mistakes happen even when you write confirmation emails with all companies, but the good companies are the one''s who make sure to fix everything for you and are friendly about it.

Glad to see everything''s been taken care of! Now...we need hand shots when you get the ring back!

I agree with that. Certainly, the fears of shopping the internet for this type of purchase are of customer service- and how to get after-sale service.
With very good staff and quick turnaround, I think that fear can be taken out of the equation. JA does have a friendly and courteous staff, certainly I feel they carry service par for what one should expect from a respectable company selling higher priced items such as diamonds (meaning excellent service comes standard).

I''ll see how the ring turns out when it comes back into my hands.
I think simply the mailing of it is nervous; it being out of your hands, but that has nothing to do with JA.

I''ll post pics on her hand when it comes in

I thought I should update for future researchers-

So I sent it off and got it back the following tuesday as they estimated. Size seems spot on (although I didn''t size it to double-check - but it fits and that''s the important thing!)

the process was painless and James Allen was great. They handled it great.

I took some pics but it''s on my fiancee''s camera. I''ll post pics when I upload.

So, in conclusion, there can be some problems but JA did make it right and it did not cost me anything nor even any explaining. They just basically said, "let us make it right, no problem."

a friend of the family is going to get married and wanted to know where to buy and I told them JA. So I guess there is no better reference than that.
