I am looking to buy an emerald cut diamond and the order of importance to me seems to be:

Cut > Clarity > Color

I am curious as to what your opinions are?

Thanks,
Mike

For any kind of step cut, I prioritize by cut, then color and clarity are given equal weight. Step cuts tend to show inclusions and color much more easily, but a bad cut will just look blah.

I have a square emerald cut (aka "Asscher"). I agree that cut is the most important, then color/clarity (its a wash with me!)...

It is also important to note the grader of the stone as well! Mine is a GIA. I have an excellent cut diamond with I color (low, but looks great to me!) and vvs2 clarity. I wouldn''t go lower than an I/J (but it depends on the person of course!) or an SI1/2 (also depends on the person)...

Agreed! The eye-clean diamond is the only one worthy of an emerald cut to suit my tastes

its gota have all 3 an emerald cut lets it all hang out there is no hiding color inclusions or bad cut and a bad cut one is very very bad where a great cut one is playful and fun and dances in the sun.

First thing for me in any stone is that it's eyeclean. Once that's established... cut, then color. Clarity beyond eyeclean is a matter of taste, IMO.

I wouldn't go lower than an H VS2 in a stepcut, personally.
