I am looking for the perfect emerald cut diamond and driving myself crazy. Now that I brought in online shopping into the equation I cant stop looking. I am looking to spend under 8000 and here is what I would like:

I live about 40 minutes from NYC. Am I better off going there to look? Thanks for all your help.

The first one is worth a look. Although it is on the deep side, it could potentially be a pretty EC depending upon the step pattern, crown height, and symmetry. I'm not hot about the Thick Girdle but at least it doesn't vary.

I would most likely pass on the second EC. Not keen on the VVS1. Definitely don't like the variable girdle, especially since it is EXTREMELY thin to slightly thick. It might be more prone to chipping, plus I don't know where is the EX thin part and the thick section.

ETA
Since you are reasonably close to NYC, I'd recommend two PS vendors:
Jonathan @ Good Old Gold and Mark @ Engagement Rings Direct
Give them a call first so they can line up what you want to see.

Yes, definitely agree with Chrono- you need to see these stones in person. We used Mark at ERD for my EC and had a nice experience with him. Give either one of them a call and they can line up a few for you to see so you can compare and make a wise decision...

One thing of concern for me personally with step cuts is symmetry. Good symmetry isn''t good enough, IMO. If you can, VG or EX would be much better. I was actually looking at an Em cut... two weeks ago that has ''good'' symmetry and it just looked wonky (GIA cert) to me.

I might of found a nice one:

Shape: Emerald
Carat weight: 1.32
Cut: Ideal
Color: F
Clarity: VS2
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 62.9%
Table: 63%
Polish: VG
Symmetry: VG
Girdle: M-TK
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Faint
Measurements: 7.22*5.66*3.56
Ratio: 1.28
Price: 7,382

Does the price scope price really mean they will give you that price if you are a member to this site? I was wondering what I say when I call them.

Thanks alot for all the help!!!

Sounds like this could be a very pretty EC. I would ask the vendor (sounds llike a PS vendor) for a few more things:
1. Idealscope picture
2. Sarin report (for crown height, among others)
3. Actual magnified photograph of the stone

You can tell the vendor you are a member of PS since most PS vendors give us special pricing.

I was just looking at that last one on WF. The numbers look great, though you would have to see it to be sure.

I have contacted two dealers from Pricescope about the stones I am looking at. Both said that the pricescope members discount listed for the diamonds is only for a wire transfer and not for a credit card. Is this true? One finnaly said they would give it to me and the other said they would give a 3% discount. Both are very highly approved dealers on here.

Any thoughts on this stone?
