Good Sunday my dear fellow PSers!

Haven't had a chance to get on the forum for a while. Hope you all doing well and having fun with your awesome jewels!

TodayI finally got a chance to sit down and do my favorite thing - wandering around online for diamonds. I found a few emerald cut diamonds on JA, but my untrained eyes can not tell if they are good pick. One thing that really confuses me is the black shadows. I am not able to tell if they are bow ties, or reflecting from camera and other surroundings. I posted them below and hope to get help/comments from the PS experts. To me this is always a good way of learning, and I appreciate your help a lot, as always!

Only marquises, pears, ovals and hearts have bowties. The dark areas in the diamonds are obstruction from the camera and contrasting angles where the facets are turning on and off as the diamond is rotated. Your future emerald cut really won't look like that all the time but will look like this asscher IRL.
IMG_0684.JPG If you go to the Show Me The Bling section there is a wonderful thread that is a collection of emerald and asscher cut diamonds in various lighting conditions. It will give you a real life feel for what they look like everyday.
Could you give us an idea of what type of emerald cut you are attracted to? Do you like emeralds with chunky facets and high crowns like your second diamond listed or more rectangular with narrower steps like your first choice? What is the desired budget? How will the emerald be set? When you can answer these questions your thread will get more responses.

@princessandthepear, thanks a lot for your post! and I am sorry I threw a bunch stones there without giving much information at all. I am looking for an emerald as a solitaire pendant. At this point I am considering a wide range of .4ish to 1 ct because i feel they can all be decent for a pendant. If I get a good 1ct by any chance, I might eventually make it a ring. I know no matter what the diamond will be, I would like to set it north-south direction. I would hope to have help on how to judge the light performance from the JA videos.

BTW, I recently found I can not open the videos from JbyGrace website. is this just me?

What is the budget range we have to work with? :)

hey everyone, thanks a lot for your help! my budget can go anywhere below $4000. What I really care is the light performance of the diamond. it will be a pendant so I feel it can go with a wide range of carat weight.

A few that caught my non-expert eye :)

A bit window-y in the triangles at the bottom of the short ends when tilted, but interesting faceting to my eyes!

Doesn't window much at all!

A smidge of windowing.

I find this one really interesting - perhaps a bit dark/low-contrast/maybe leaky? under the table when head-on, but during movement seems to be giving a lot of coloured flashes/fire, which is quite unusual for JA videos! It might not be giving the strongest direct/white light return, but I find coloured fire more attractive generally :) Also pretty minimal windowing, perhaps just a touch on the windmills at tilt angles! I'd like it if an expert could comment on this one.

@SimoneDi, @OoohShiny, thank you both! all great options! One question: how do I see windows from the videos? Thanks Thanks!
