hi,
i have been reading a lot of the posts here on emerald cut diamonds and learning about diamonds in general. everyone is very helpful and and thanks to all the posts, i''ve definitely had my eyes open to what to look for beyond what the commericals tell you to look for in the 4Cs. I am specifically looking at emerald cut diamonds (i fell in love with the shape) and I saw this ring on pricescope from GOG Lab Report #: 12659935 for $6176 . Now, I know how important a good cut is for emerald diamonds, so even though the stone looks good, the measurements don''t match some of the criteria i''ve learned about--the table exceeds 60% and it''s listed as having neglible fluorescence. I am uploading pics, and here is the sarin report. The stone fits criteria for budget and size, clarity, and the color is G. Is this a good buy or should I keep looking? I love the emerald shape and had resigned myself to not get the "sparkle" of a RB because of the shape but a lot of the posts have given me hope that emerald and sparkle are not mutually exclusive. Thanks in advance to everyone.

The Sarin report states
Carat 1.2
width 5.19mm
length 6.54mm (L:W 1.26)
total depth 3.91mm (75.3%)
pavilion depth 3.07 (59.2%)
crown height .62mm 11.9%
table size 3.82 73.6%
girdle thickness .28mm (5.3%)
culet off center 0.8% (W:0.9% , L:0.0%)
table off center0.8% (W:0.9% , L:0.0%)

I will try to pic the other data on GOG as well, i can only figure how to attach one file at at time.

There is also an gemadvisor scan with idealoscope and gemadvisor data, but i can ony view it on the GOG website, i can''t upload it as a file.

The stone is too deep at 75.3% depth. Because of this, the stone measures very small face up. Even though the carat weight is 1.2 ct, my 3/4 EC measures almost the same size as this stone. Hence, I often recommend stones under 68% so that it will look bigger. Depth under 65% is preferred though.

The table size is also very large at 73.6%. It gives the EC a very different appearance. Yes, the 11.9% crown height will give the stone some fire, but the large table tends towards a more glassy appearance. A table under 65% and crown heights over 10% would be sweet.

The Iscope is all right - I just don''t like that large black square in the middle. I''d rather the steps be more even than have a huge step stand out. Almost like a drop style cut.

In short, I''ll pass on this stone and keep looking.

Don''t worry about fluorescence. Many here on Pricescope love it, myself included. It can give the stone a lovely lavender tint under UV lighting if you have strong fluorescence. In any case, a negligable rating means the UV is practially non detectable.

Can you get the break-down of the step-pavilion angles?

diagem, i'' ve uploaded a pdf that has all sorts of angles in it, i''m too new to know what they actually mean but hope it helps

thank you chrono for your insight, i''ve been looking for a while and it''s really hard to find a good emerald cut that fits my budget
