Hi, this is total noob question but are dark areas under the table bad ? For example, In the picture attached, 4 out of the 6 have a lot of ''black''. Will the emerald actually look black when viewed from above ?

Stones 1, 2, 3 are probably no good.

Stones 4, 5, and 6 may have potential depending on how they react when tilted back and forth on the videos.

Remember, this is viewing from quite a distance. If I could view them up-close then I/we could verify.

ah ok thank you! I'm not too familiar with emerald cut and not sure what to look for when looking at them. Well actually, I kind of know about windowing, extinction, symmetry and corners but don'T really know how to recognize them. I'll try to find the link to those stones.

Tyty, why are your ruling out number three? It is not dark in the center at all? Granted, I cannot see any other details of the stones in a picture this small so I might rule some out for other reasons. But the two best appear to be 3 and 4, and if you need a third for ASET images, I'd choose number 6. But it would be helpful for you to post the links to the stones you are considering before asking for the ASET images.

It looked clear to me like it basically had a stepped window on the bottom that you could see through.

I think it is this stone...up close you can see what I mean.

*I might have looked this stone up yesterday but I don't remember. That was 24 hours of diamond viewing ago... not sure
what I looked at  !

What should I look for (or not) when viewing an emerald cut ? how much dark area is tolerable ? On the JA site, I tighted the search by putting depth at 60-66 and table at 61-69. Is that too tight or should I widen the search ? I'm basically searching for ca. 1.2-1.5 ct, max. around 11-12K

3rd stone:

4th:

5th:

What are your thoughts for the above stones ? I'm learning bit by bit about this cut.

Thank you!

Reverse it; put the table at 55% to 65%, and the depth at 60% to 70%. Not a guarantee but helps to narrow the field. #3 looks nice, #5 might have potential. Pick 3 ECs and have JA pull ASETs for them.

oops these were the 4th, 5th and 6th stone. Thanks for the advice!
