Wow.

We have reached a new low. :-(

Speechless.

Don''t know why but I laughed. It''s absurd. And thus the world goes just a bit more mad...

Unbelievable. I really can''t say anything else.

The strangest thing? You may choose an egg from a woman with an IQ of 140, beautiful, tall and smart and...the kid will be totally different. When we were waiting for our first child, we were thinking...if I am an MD and a Ph.D., pretty, rather tall and blonde, and my husband is very good-looking and has a stellar IQ and a Ph.D....our kid should be at least a Superman! Well...he inherited my "talent" in math (pretty average) and my husband''s "talent" in creative writing (crappy at least). He is good-looking and he also sings well (this gene skipped a generation) but it doesn''t really help him in the vocation he chose!

Our youngest son has dyslexia and a severe learning disability.

These people believe that the "best genes" will prevail? Truth is, when you have that many genes, it is like tossing 46 coins...chances of them landing the way you want are close to zero...

Stupid raffle and more stupid expectations.

WHAT?!?!?!?!

I''ll play devil''s advocate for a moment.

This was to raise awareness for egg donation. Done.
A lot of couples try a very long time to have children. Many of them would never have a chance for IVF due to cost. This WILL in fact be someone''s "child." That couple will be immeasurably happy with the outcome.

I''m not saying it''s right. I''m not saying I agree. I''m just giving a different POV.

Wow, that''s really...... strange.

Not that unusual, apparently:

Minnesota

Maryland

Florida

The problem with the London clinic's raffle is that it is characterized as a raffle for a human egg, rather than a raffle for an IVF cycle (though as I understand it, they were trying to highlight the concern re: lack of available donor eggs). According to this article, couples (who can afford to) already come from the UK to the US for donor egg IVF because of the lack of donor eggs in the UK.

BTW, the clinic that I go to pays egg donors $8,000 for a cycle and retrieval, regardless of the number of eggs retrieved. However, egg donors in the UK are not paid, or are paid minimal fees only.

But then do we raffle off a kidney to raise awareness of organ donation?

lulu~ I didn''t say it was right, I said it worked. Raffling a kidney would also work. Again, not saying it''s right.

It is horrifying to know that there are people who would auction off human life. Appalling.

No no, I''m not saying your wrong. I''m saying that taken to the logical extreme you can see the mistake of it.
