As most know, I will be looking at 2ct stones this week. They are currently calling in stones from other stores. My sales person mentioned that one of the stones was an "Elexese". I told her I would look at it along with the others. From her description, I guess these stones show well, but I was concerned about the "Elexese" 60/60. Wouldn''t I be losing fire with a 60% table? Anyone ever had experience with one of these stones? Could it be as fiery as a 57% table?

I have never heard of the Elexese diamond. That said, the fieriness of a diamond comes from many things:
1. Interplay of ALL the angles
2. High crown
3. Small table

Just having a 60% table does not automatically doom you to a less fiery stone.

You will likely find the Branded diamond a bit larger in diameter for its weight than a pure Tolkowsky cut. Its the kind of diamond that I bought for my wife since I am well accustomed to the 60/60 types and view them as very good value stones combined nicely with attractive appearance. In today's market, people definitely look for Ideally cut stones and also for Branded ones. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Keep an open mind... they may not be the "majority", but there are some really gorgeous 60/60 stones here on PS.

60/60''s are actually highly sought after by some folk. And as OldMiner and Lynn B said, there are some very nice 60/60''s out there. Plus, the bonus, as OldMiner noted, that diamond will have the look of a heavier carat weight.

Definitely keep an open mind and look with your eyes and your heart.

It''ll be interesting to see what you think once you''ve viewed stones live and in person.

Have fun!!

Thanks for the replies. I am suppose to go on Wed or Thurs to see the stones. I will let you know how the Elexese looks. I had a 54% table stone that I LOVED, so I am abit scared to go with a big table, but I want to give it a chance. I want to light up the room with whatever stone I pick, so I need to be extra careful. I am going to be testing the Elexese against a GIA "Excellent Cut" stone.

David, does your wife have an Elexese or just a 60/60, and why did you choose 60/60?

I don't think OldMiner's spouse has the branded Elexese stone; just a 60/60 stone. Years ago, the 60/60 cut was the ideal stone. Today, the new ideal according to society is the smaller table (Tolkowsky cut) type stones. Neither one is the right or wrong choice - it is a matter of personal taste.

Chrono, I agree about it being a matter of taste. After having had a 54% table, a 61% and a 62%, the first 2 having had great cuts, I am thinking I may be a Tolkowski person, but again, I am going to "Check it out"! and see if the 60/60 with everything else in place looks good to me. This diamond selecting is extremely difficult. I am use to things having finite variables, but diamond variables are endless. Picking out something that has NO exact, one only way, to perceive it''s pefection, makes me keep wondering if "the other one" was more perfect. Oh well, at least I know what I DON''T like, so by now I can shave off the ones that aren''t going to work for me. And Hey! I loved my 1.23''s looks, (I only traded it because I wanted a certain size) I know with me, I''m hard to please, but when I find what I am looking for (and I ALWAYS do) I find it was WELL worth the extra time because the overwhelming sense of pleasure I derive from getting exactly what I was looking for can''t be matched.
